~~ HUST WONDERIN’
I Wonder about titles now
And those who proudly wear them,
And those dear democratic: souls
Who simply cannot bear them;
Some titles are inherited
And some are nobly won,
Some speak of dim ancestral’fame — /
And some deeds well done.
If Shakespeare were alive today, he might find material for another play, titled, Much Ado About Nothing, in a recent social episode of no importance whatever. A social leader living in an eastern city gave a
party. Among her guests, were a Countess and a young
person of sternly democratic tendencies.
The young person refused to recognize the ancestral
title, the Countess was affronted and the hostess greatly distressed; indeed there was a tempest in a teapot
and the case was taken to a radio court of appeals. Just
three empty headed women who were not content until they had given their empty headedness nation wide
publicity. :
The young person should have been taken aside by
an older and wiser soul and instructed in the art of
social rage; the Coufitess should have ignored the
discourtesy and the hdktess should have apologized to
her guests and allowed the affair to be forgotten. Making an issue of a. young person's lack of form seems to
indicate that those involved were quite childish, to’
__.Jitled personages who come from abroad to visit
in America should, if they are worthy, be accorded
the same degree of courtesy which titled Americans
expect when traveling abroad. “‘No titles in America?”
Not inherited titles, but we certainly do have titles.

_Thad’s Feet Hurt’
After a long, hard day’s work ‘on
the farm, Thad’s idea of how to
spend an evening is to take off his
shoes, and relax with a mellow
giass of beer.
Andy’s Garden Tavern, Thad can
relax with his glass of beer, and
the missus can also chat with all
the neighbors there. Each gets his
(or her) own way, ‘
But his missus has other ideas.
After being in the house all day,
she’s all for walking to the village,
if it’s only for a soda. Likes to-see
people, catch the latest gossip. But
Thad says, no, his feet hurt! Began to cause unpleasantness_—in
Worked, too! In fact, now the
missus likes an occasional temperate glass of beer herself. And Thad
finds it’s pleasanter to enjoy his
beer with good companions, rather
than alone. In fact, his feet stopped

Then Bi!l Webster comes up with

gYEAR OUT!
Military titles, political titles, scientific titles, titles
earned by long and arduous study in branches of research or academic study. Titles? We have ecclesiastical titles which no one refuses to honor, titles held
by those who are outstanding in the world of sports
and a huge array of strange, often wierd titles bestowed upon the great pooh bahs of our fraternal and
secret organizations. Yes, in America, titles are not
lacking, so if a little lady with an inherited title contacts us socially or otherwise, she is entitled to her
garment of greatness and if we would be courteous,
we will say, “how do you do,. Countess,” and. smile
graciously as she responds, “how do you do.”
I Wonder if Mr. Henry Wallace wil! continue to be
a thorn in the flesh of both grand old parties all

through this year 1948. Third parties never win in

Mr. Wallace knows this and so do the followers of
