Most of the honors ge to this charming newcomer, whose ingenue charms get full play in the role of the resourceful pursuer. Franchot Tone and Diana Lynn afte also involved in the fun. “Three Godfathers.”’ This film is dedicated to the memory of the late Harry Carey, well known ‘‘western’”’ actor and also introduces his son, Harry Carey, Jr. Evidently the director, John Ford, desired to weave in a Christmas allegory, which he does, but in a forced and sentimental manner, There is beautiful color photography. “Day of Wrath.” This is a strange and tragic tale of witch-huntting in 17th Century Denmark, where the clergy, as well as the laity, hunted and brought to trial and death by torture persons suspected of witchcraft. ; Pd RECORD HARVEST Final harvest reports have stamped the 1948 crop year perhaps the most remarkable in the nation’s history. Anunprecedented total of nearly 179,000,000 tons of grain was havested. The first month of the year is named after the Roman god, Janus. He was the doorkeeper of heaven and looked into both the past and the future. He had control over new enterprises and was entrusted with the fortunes of the new year. h PAST. To live in it is folly. We should review the past years only in order to make comparisons from what was accomplished, suffered and left undone. It is far wiser to look ahead with hope, than backward with regrets. e h FUTURE. It holds much for us in spite of world conditions. If we could train ourselves not.to believe all that we hear and read the uncertainty of the future
would be lessened. We_ should strive for good beginnings, which insure good endings, and not commence any undertaking, without estimating our power. if we expect to succeed. e h & RESOLUTIONS. This is the time of year when many good ones are contemplated, but never carried out. If we made only one and kept it, at the end of the yéar the results would be two fold. How about putting a little more leve into the things you do in 1949? That is one thing we humans seem to forget to do, or is it oversight? e h & CAPRICORN. We are now in the sign of the goat. People of this sign are inclined ‘to be contemplative and_ serious. possess dignity and self restraint. By nature they are affectionate, loyal and true, but do not readily show the’ sympathy they. feel. The women; like their men, are generally leaders in their field, whether business or social. e & Welcome Life! the Spirit striy es!
