Madge Cook of Vallaha Council, Auburn, was acting Mishenawa, and conducted the ceremony. Oher officers raised were Annabell Brahe, Wenonah; Ruth Wylie, Prophetess; Clifford Lester, Powahatan; Grace Englebright, First Scout; Alice Jenkins, Second Scout; Loretta Baldwin, First Runner; Sylvia Lester,* Second Runner; Alma Gergary, First Warrior; Kathy Dutra, Second Warrior; Marie McQiire, Third Warrior; Thelma Butz, ‘Fourth Warrior; Peggy Smith, Guardian of Tepee; Ilene Fortig, Guardian of Forest; Goldie Anderson, Keeper of Records; Blanche Williams, Collector of Wampum; Lila Day, Keeper of Wampum; Felicia Moody, Trustee; Irene Bisbro, Counsellor; Edith Sollenberg, Musician; Maude Mullin, First Aid; Martha Dimmen, Second Aid. Representatives of four different councils including Olive Harrington, Past Great Pocahontas from Lolami of Roseville, attended. The hall was beautifully decorated wtih. gladioli and the members of the escort ‘team carried nosegays of wild sweetpeas. Pocahontas Mlinarich carried a lovely bouquet of: gladioli and carnations, a gift from Madge Cook, and she was presented a beautiful bouquet by Hildered Branson. Delegate elected for Great Council in Sacramento in August was Hildered Branson, with Thelma Butz and Elizabeth Lashbaugh named to accompany her. Following adjournment refreshments of ice cream and home made cake were served by a committee consisting of Alice Jenkins, Hildered Branson, Thel_ma Butz and Grace Englebright. Next meeting of the council will be held Wednesday, July 27, in the Odd Fellows hall, at which time a class of Palefaces will be adopted. WSCS Will Picnic At Pioneer Park Tomorrow The Women’s Society of Christian Service pot-luck pienic will be held tomorrow at Pioneer park. Luncheon at. 12:30 will start the festivities. Picnickers are asked to bring their own service. Transportation will be available at the church at noon. Sheriff's Posse Has Party Thursday On Banner Mountain Members of the Nevada County Sheriff's Posse and _ their ladies enjoyed a wiener. roast atop ‘Banner mountain, with President Bud Kyle in charge. Many members of the group rode horseback to the nicnic. Garden Club to Meet Thursday at Harris Home Nevada City Garden club will meet Thursday at the home of Mrs. R. E. Harris with Mrs, W. P. Other officers named were Ben Gray, vice president; Mrs. Dow Alexander, secretary; Jacob Schramm, treasurer. Dow Alexander is retiring president. Grass Valley Funeral services were held yesterday faternoon for Emil Maascerg, 78, at the Myers Grass Valley mortuary, the Rev. Frank H. Buck, pastor of the Emmanuel Episcopal church, officiating. Maascerg wandered from the Alta Hill rest home June 2‘and his badly decomposed body was found by two Grass Valley boys Wednesday near the Jenny Lind mine. * bd * Norman Tillotson, Yuba City, and Betty Eldredge, Grass Valley, were married Tuesday, July 5, at a service in Minden, Nev. They will make their home in Grass Valley. Mrs. Tillotson has been managing the Eldredge Red and White store since the death of her father a few months ago. * *. * Miss Bernice Glasson returned home this past week from a plane tour of Europe that took her to France, Italy, Switzerland and England. She accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Roy W. Blair of Sacramento. Miss Glasson said ‘she found the people of France and Italy encouraged and beginning to rise from their wartime desolation. She said food was generally adequate although prices are still high. She found quite the contrary in England with the austerity program still effective and it was her feeling he British are not happy nor encouraged but cling to their austerity with typical bull-dog determination. * * * Miss Dorothy Elizabeth Baker, Grass Valley, and H. Leland Reeves, Rio Oso, were married Wednesday, July 6, at Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe, the Rev. W. W. ‘Turner, pastor of the Grass Valley Congregational church, officiating. Lenore Hewer, Colfax, and Edward L. Carey, Alta Hill, were married Sunday, July 3, in Reno, Nev., attended by Mr. and. Mrs. Albert Soga, sister of the groom. The bride is a graduate of Placer Union high school and is a Past Honored Queen of Job’s Daughters, Bethel No. 148, au burn. ’ The groom is a graduate of Christian Brothers high school in Sacramento. They are at home on Bartlett drive, until they move to Portola where the groom plans to enter a business concern. ‘ * * * Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rushin celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary yesterday with family members and close friends atending an informal reception. They were married July 11, 1889, in San Saba, Texas. She was the former Miss Eppie McMillin. They spent most of their early married life in Texas and have been residents of California for 26 years. Six of seven children survive.
