passed by the last Congress, Veterang Administration has announced. 5
Term insurance taken out before January 1, 1946, carries a
term period of eight years from
date of issue. Policies issued ‘after
that date are for a five year
term. t
Prior to the new amendment
to the law, it would have been

Available permanent forms before
the end of their term period, or
their insurance would have expired. Now they may renew for
another five year term at. the
premium rate applicable at the
dime of renewal.
The first NSLI policies» were
issued to men in service in October, 1940. Therefore, the first
term. periods would have begun
to expire in October of this year.
Those who renew “their term
insurance will pay a higher premium than their old rate. For example, a person who was 25 years
old when he took out term insur“ ance in 1940 has been paying 67
cents per month per $1,000 of coverage. When he renews this year,
it will be at his attained age of
’ 33, for which the monthly premium is 74 cents per $1,000.
VA also reminded veterans

Thumbsucking Study
Completed At U. C.
BERKELEY: Thumbsucking
. children who come from happy
seems to be more prevalent in
homes and in the more feminine
girls. 3 :
These are the findings of Dr.
Marjorie P. Henzik, research associate in the Institute of Child
Welfare at the University of California. Dr. Honzik has recently
ing in a group of 200: normal chiling in a group of 200 noral children.
Dr. Honzik found that about
one third of the group were sucking their thumbs at the end of
their second year, with evidence
that the habit begins after the
baby is frustrated in his need
for either sucking, food, or for
comfort during illness.
“There is, some evidence in the
study that the relationships within the homes of the thumbsuckers
are unusually happy ones, Dr.
Honzik said. ‘‘‘There tends to be
a harmonious relationship between
the parents and an_ unusually
triendly attitude of the mother
toward the thumbsuckig child.”’
Dr. Honzik also said that probably the greater prevalence of
thumbsucking in girls than boys
may be attributed to a more lenient attitude toward the girls
with regard to the habit and to
greater activity by boys.

Here’s how it got that way.
