* * a a 8—The Nevada City Nugget, Friday, July 29, 1949 PAIR INJURED WHEN AUTO PLUNGES OFF ROAD ARE IMPROVED = THROW FROM HORSE Two men who were injured when the automobile in which they were riding plunged off a sharp turn on the Bear Valley ’ :grade early Wednesday morning according to NeWilliams home, Grass are improving, wada county hospital reports. Hunter managed to crawl from the wreckage and climb to the highway where he caught a ride with an early morning motorist and obtained a wrecker from the Plaza Garage in Nevada City. S. R. Dahl, whose Plaza Garage Wrecker lifted the machine so that Kersanac could be removed to the hospital, said the auto was a total loss having plunged down a steep embankment in its wild gyrations after swerving off the road. Ed Rosell, Hills Flat, was ordered held for trial in Nevada County Superior Court yesterday when he appeared before Justice of Peace Charles Morehouse of Grass Valley on charges of selling machinery which did not belong to him. His arraignment in the higher court has not as yet been set. . LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL PUPIL INJURED BY Joan Oje, 18, daughter of Mrs. A. W. Williams, Railroad avenue, is recovering from injuries she suffered Tuesday when thrown from her horse in front of the Valley. Miss Oje, a member of Rainand a junior at Nehigh school, sustained into the yard. She is at the Jones memorial hospital. : Captain L. F. Oje, her father, of Fort Meade, Md., visiting here: is expected to remain here until Miss Oje is able to return from the hospital. ANNUAL 4-H OUTING AT WOODCHUCK FLAT Dinner last night opened the annual Nevada county 4-H club camp at Woodchuck Flat, with approximately 100. club members and leaders in attendance. Local Young Baptists 'At Bible Encampment Gene Seeberg, John Raetz and Cecil Raetz, members of the young people’s group of the Community Baptist Church of Nevada City, will spend the next week attending the Baptist Bible Encampment at Mount Hermon in the Santa Cruz mountains. They will be a-part of a group of several hundred Baptist young people from other parts of the FLIER’S IDENTIFICATION . AWAITS RELATIVES, WAR DEPARTMENT RECORDS . Although tentatively identified as the skeleton of Corp. Bernard Walner, 20-year-old missing air) force enlisted man from Los Angeles, the scattered bones of a man brought in from Buzzard’s Roost near Cisco Grove still awaited . positive identification yesterday. . Coroner Alvah Cooper has sought aid from the medical rec. ords of the War Department and B. B. Burton, Los Angeles chain store operator, whose nephew, Corporal Walner was one of two missing fliers, who crashed in the high Sierras February , 1946 after taking off in a private plane for a flight from Napa County airport to Reno Nevada. The body of the other missing flier, Pfc. Kurowski of Hamilton Field, was found near the wreckage of the plane in July of 1946 by a cattleman. An extensive aerial and ground search failed to turn up the body of his companion until Reginald Peacock, Auburn fisherman, stumbled across the skeleton scattered over the ground at the foot of Old Man Mountain last Sunday. Deputy Sheriff John Blackburn, who together with Coroner Cooper and Peacock brought out the skeleton, said the bones were fairly well scattered but the main part of the skeleton was under a rock lip at the base of the mountain.
