AWAITS RELATIVES, WAR
DEPARTMENT RECORDS .
Although tentatively identified
as the skeleton of Corp. Bernard
Walner, 20-year-old missing air)
force enlisted man from Los Angeles, the scattered bones of a man
brought in from Buzzard’s Roost
near Cisco Grove still awaited .
positive identification yesterday. .
Coroner Alvah Cooper has
sought aid from the medical rec.
ords of the War Department and
B. B. Burton, Los Angeles chain
store operator, whose nephew,
Corporal Walner was one of two
missing fliers, who crashed in the
high Sierras February , 1946
after taking off in a private plane
for a flight from Napa County
airport to Reno Nevada.
The body of the other missing
flier, Pfc. Kurowski of Hamilton
Field, was found near the wreckage of the plane in July of 1946
by a cattleman. An extensive
aerial and ground search failed
to turn up the body of his companion until Reginald Peacock,
Auburn fisherman, stumbled
across the skeleton scattered over
the ground at the foot of Old
Man Mountain last Sunday.
Deputy Sheriff John Blackburn, who together with Coroner
Cooper and Peacock brought out
the skeleton, said the bones were
fairly well scattered but the main
part of the skeleton was under
a rock lip at the base of the
mountain.
