TWO HITS GIVE
PRACTICE GAME
TO MEXICAN AC
Two hits were all the Anchos
could harvest from two hurlers
of the Mexican athletic club in
Sacramento Sunday as the capital
winter league team slugged out a
10-1 victory over the Nevada
City entry of the Placer-Nevada
league. Both hits came in the
first two innings off starting
pitcher Corranza.
Big Dan Ahtipas started the
fourth ‘inning and never gave a
hit in the six he hurled. He had
such complete mastery of the
Anchos he struck out 10,. and
only two of his deliveries went
past the infield.
Jones slammed Corranza’s
fourth pitch into deep left field
for a triple and Childers laid
a perfect bunt down the first
base line to give the Anchos
their only score. Kozinski singled
in the second, stole.second base
but ended the inning by being
‘picked off third by the alert
Cervantes, catching star of the
Mexicans.

Big Dan retired the first ten
Anchos to face him before hitting
Kozinski with a _ pitched ball.
Stroh forced Kozinski at second
but died on third as Tittle was
caught napping off first base by
the ever-alert Cervantes. Ahtipas
issued free bases to Jones in the
eighth and Kozinski in the ninth
but they went nowhere.
The first five Mexican runs
were unearned with the Anchos
showing the very evident lack
of ball handling by failing to
hold the ball three times after
tagging for outs.
Maldonande and Trujillo singled in the first and scored after
Thompson and Cameron dropped
the ball after perfectly tagging
them out. Lujan added the third
rhn when Goldsberry failed to
hold the ball after tagging Corranza at second on -Cameron’s
perfect peg after two were out
in the second inning.

and then in the sixth Stroh failed
to come up with Cervantes’ daisy
cutter. Venesio’ walked and the
two advanced on a passed ball.
Lujan struck out but Big Dan
slapped a liner between Goldsberry and Kosinski to score the
base runners. 'Trujillo singled in
the seventh, stole second and
came home on a fielder’s choice.
Goldsberry pitched the eighth
for the “Anchos and
hit the first two batters. Torres doubled to _ score
Cervantes. Trujillo singled to
score Venesio and Torres, and
Sarrellana’s double driving home
Trujillo ended the scoring in the
game.
The Anchos showed itself to
be a potentially powerful club,
once the players get an opportunity to practice fielding and
hitting. The biggest weakness is
in the battery. Trathen pitched
good ball Sunday but one man
can’t carry the burden. Cameron
Played a whale of a good game
at catcher but George has a lot
of gray hair. Lotz looked good
behind the plate but is handicapped by lack of size.
Kozinski looked out of place
at third base and played the hot
corner flat-footed. Jones needs
plenty of practice chasing fungoes and will improve his batting
average greatly when he learns
to swing parallel to the ground.
