PER WEEK......-essed OTS.
SATURDAY, AUGUST zi, 1886.
Wealth Pursaers.
A lot of San Francisco newspaper men who have an itching for
fame and fortune, and don’t. want
to stop to grind these blessings out
at the journalistic tread-mill, have
organized the Press Mining Company to work a-quartz claim situated a short distance westerly of
__this city, near the South Yuba river
and on the sameline of slate and
granite contact as are the Wyoming, Providence and Nevada
City, three of the best gold mines
in the State today. At a meeting
sheld Wednesday evening the following officers were elected: President, E. D. Dement; Vice Presi@ant, Charles Nash; Secretary, J.
D, Harvey ; Treasurer, J. B. Thurman; Board of Directors—Charles
W. Bryant, W. B. McAllister, M.
D., L. 8. Whitcomb, J. M, Ward,
H. K. Goddard, Paul E. Vandor
and J. P, Slevin.

. Who Lost It?
Supervisor Mulloy has a force
of men enployed in widening the
upper Grass. Valley road at the
culvert a short distance this side
of Town Talk, Layers of cedar
brush and soil alternating are used
in building the embankment.
Yesterday while the workmen
were engaged in cutting some of
the brush from a dense clump
near the Fortuna hoisting works,
they found a gold bracelet lying
on the ground in the midst of the
trees. There are various theories
' us to how it got there. Any lady
having lost it can recover the
property by calling upon Mr, Mutloy, describing it and telling him
the circumstances under which it
was lost.

A Legislative Vacation.
Thursday afternoon the Assembly passed a concurrent resolution
to adjourn till September 7tb. The
Senate by a vote of 18 to 16 refused to consider the resolution. This
lack of unity left the disposal of
the vexed question in the Governor’s hands, as under Section 17,
Article V. of the Constitution he
can fix the time to which the
_. Legislature_shall_adjourn, being
obliged to set it prior to the next
regular session. Therefore yesterday morning he exercised the
privilege and prorogued the Legislature till the 7th‘of next month.
In the meantime the per diem of
the legislators is suspended, which
is one blessing amid so many
evils. ;
