Just Wonderin’.
1 Wonder when the month-of May
Comes with her gift of precious days
And calls to us in tender wise
To walk life’s quiet ways;
How eagerly our heart respond
How dear the home ties. seem
And how we follow memory’s paths
In many a golden dream.
May is a magic month and strange it would be
if we did not respond to her manifold charms. This
year, she came to our California with tender blue skies
and perfumed breezes, with the mystery of growing
things and the loveliness. of blossoming tree and vine.
We caught the fragrance of blossom laden fruit trees
and then one morning, we found the gold of Ophir
roses had comie, as they have never failed to come,’ into
the heart of the new singing year.’’ Beauty was about
us everywhere, and as we watched the processes of
‘recreation, we knew that the world was not going to
the dogs and that civilization could never be destroyed
by atomic power—a way would be found, doubt and
fear would not always prevail, sometime the good ship,
Hope of the World, would make port and this weary
old earth would find its blossom time.
May brought us Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and
Family Week and under the influence of awakened
emotion and beneficient memories, family ties were
strengthened and home was seen in its true relation
to our way of life. We realized that home was indeed
the unit of our civilization and that as such it must
be kept securely guarded from corroding influences
and that it was of all places the symbol of our strength
as a nation.
A closer relationship between parents and children, a mutual sympathy and understanding among all
members of the family, would inevitably result in
better contacts with the world at large, juvenile delinquency would cease to trouble and broken homes become far less numerous.
We may feel great pride in a large imposing home,
but from the little homes of America, we have received
our greatest inspirations, and it is to these little homes
that we owe our greatest allegiance. Truly there is no
place like home, so let’s cultivate and improve our
homes and our home relationships. Parents and children
have many interests in common; and these interests
should bind the members of the family together in
unbreakable bonds of love and understanding.
‘Be it ever so humble, there’s no place like home.’
Let us cherish the little homes and look to them for
