Darke and husband, of Herciiles. Newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Purtle of San Francisco, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Jack Price of Sweetland. Mrs. Matt Sauer and her brother, Felix Chapedelaine, have returned from North Dakota, where they attended the funeral of their father. Mrs. Lena Dahneke's nephew is spending his vacation-here. Callers at the Hill home were Mrs. L..Ramsden of Nevada City and her friends, Mr .and Mrs. John Olson of Stockton, The men panned gold in the afternoon while the women chatted. The Ladies Club met Wednesday noon at Wood’s Hall with a good attendance, and several vis_itors, including Mrs. Charles Murdock of Southern California, Mrs. Lane and daughter of Winnemucea, Nevada, Mrs. Frank Stuart of Sweetland, Mrs. Elma Gaylord, Mrs. Ray Nielson and Mrs. Art JYalley, all of North San Juan, and Mrs. Leona Browning from Camino. Guest speakers were Mrs. Duncanson of the Extension Bureau, Several members who have been absent due to illness or bad weather were welcomed back. Friday afternoon, the P. T. PS Mrs. March Wins Over Write-In Candidate NEVADA CITY: Owing to the 1ecent controversy. between teachers and trustees in the Oakland (Gold Flat) School, a large minority of the voters of the district in °Friday’s election favored a write-in candidate, John Hathaway, as against the incumbent, Mrs. Helen March. Mrs. March won however, With 173 votes as against, 110 votes for Hathaway. North San Juan held a spirited election in which there were three candidates running for the one seat of the board of trustees. -The score was Mike Ellsworth 16, Frank Addleman 11, and Mrs. Charles Hammond 9, ; In Indian Springs Melvin Brown defeated James McCully 12 to 2, and-in Rough and Ready Mrs. Edna _ Géilfillen, running against Frank Poli, won handily 34 to 26. In’ Lime Kiln Andy Lee defeated Mrs. Lillian -Campbell, 10 to 4, and\in Truckee, the race between Charles Beyer and Eugene Risdes. was close. Beyer won with 94 votes to 92 for Risdes. One vote was ‘disqualified.
