Ralph Penrose of North Bloomfield and Miss Victoria Barden
of Sacramento were married at
the Methodist parsonage in Nevada City by the Rev. H. H.
. Buckner. The young couple has
planned to make their home. in
Nevada City.
Miss Josephine Genasci was
tendered} a surprise party at her
Willow Valley home by courthouse friends. A chicken and raviola dinner was served followed
by cards, games and dancing.
Mrs. Richard Bigelow and William V. Tamblyn were in 2 race
for top notch honors in the bridge
tourney sponsored by the Nevada
City Elks.
Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Kjorlie of
the Nevada City high school were
hosts at their Piety hill home at
a dinner’ extended to the faculty
and Walter A. Carlson and Miss
Janes of the Washington grammar school. During the evening
bridge was played and high score
awards were made to Mr. Carlson and Mrs. Ruth Hulen of the
high school,

parties were using the water.Grant Penrose, one of Relief
hill’s wideawake young men, left
for Calistoga and was expected
to return ina few days: with one
of Napa county’s most goateibaiag
young ladies as his wife. _.
I. J. Rolfe ‘of Nevada City received a letter stating that his
Pioneer friend, Albert Burrington, was ill in Sacramento. Burrington. conducted livery stables
in Moore’s Flat and Graniteville
in the early fifties before coming
to Nevada City where he ran a
stable at the corner of Pine ‘and
Spring streets.
James Hammill’ of Grass Valley was injured by a blast in ithe
Pioneer mine in Placer county
and was taken to San Francisco
for treatment.

Stephen’ R, Heath and Miss
Lura V. Sweetland, both of
Sweetland, were married at the
Union hotel in Nevada City on
October 31 by the Rev.'P. Y.
Cove.
New planks were being laid on
Commarcia! and Main streets in!
Nevada City. Potter and Sigourney proposed laying regular cobble stones on the street in front
of their store. An ordinance was
to be passed by the board of
trustees prohibiting the laying of
planks on business streets in the
future, Rock or gravel was to be
substituted,

EX-RESIDENT DIES IN
BAY AREA LAST WEEK
Funeral services were held in
Oakland Sunday for Harold W.
Young, 54, former resident of Nevada City, who died Wednesday
night. Burial was in the national
cemetery at San Bruno.
He attended schools in Nevada
City, and was a yeteran of World
‘war I.
Surviving are his wife, Rene;
mother, Mrs. Minnie Young, Nevada City; three sisters, Mrs.
Walter Williams, Oakland; Mrs.
Blanche Hatch and Mrs. Lucille
. Johnson; and a brother, William,
‘Nevada City. .
