THURSDAY, APRIL 10, 1941. ee] carry on my work.” This is the message that shall finally win. It is ‘the PAGE SIX, NEVADA CITY NUGGET Mushrooms or Cherries? eRvics TER : 4 te a Christian. Science churches, . aster Message Child Dies, Five Brothers And Sisters Ill Of Poisoning Five children of Mr. and Mrs, Llewellyn Walker of North San Juan are improving in the county hospital here from some sort of poisoning, which claimed the life of the youngest member of the family, Bavagita, 4. The entire family ate mushrooms at a general meal and the following day consumed canned cherries. The stomach of the déceased child was sent to ‘a Sacramento pathologist by Coroner A, M. Holmes to determine the exact cause of death, The five children under treatment at the county hospital are Curneiia. 16 Argula, 13, Beverly, 10, Doris, 9, and Clarice, 6. Superintendent Richard Rodda said all are now out of danger. The body of Bavagita is at the Holmes Funeral Home in Grass Valley pending arnangements for the funeral. ; Bavagita died in a Grass Valley hospital two hours after she was taken to the institution by the parents. Peculiarly, neither Mr. or Mrs. Walker suffered ill efects from the mushrooms or cherries. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AIMS (Continued from Page One) the old brick assay office with its iron doors and windows; the section on recreation will have cuts illustrating the winter sports activities, fishing, hunting, and scenery. In an effort to call attentoin to the aspect of home building in Nevada City a cecton will be deveted illustrating some of the nicer homes in town together with pictures of school and church facilities. The photocravh work for the folder will be furnished bu Maurice Kach of Grass Valley and through the courtesy of the Sacramento Bee and the United States Forest Service. The public is cordiaaly inthe folder with cuts of the Lava Cap Mine, an action scene in ane of the hydraulic mines and a few miners going down into, the denths in a skin. Mention in the folder will be given to the beautiful spring wildflower disnlays in this vicinity calling attention to the cherry blossoms in the San Juan area and the. Scotch Broom Blooms, as well as the wild lilac. So much for the folder. Some one has called our atten-; tion to the fact that this county is very interesting from the . standpoint of geology and there are numerous fossil beds in this area which could be used to stimulate travel. It has been surgested that the Native Sons and Daughters sponsor a museum which could be an attraction for tourists. An enthusiastic camera hobbiest has suggested the Chamber might well snonsor a photographic contest in order.to get people interested in photographing a really beautiful country that we have about us. In and around Nevada City there are many_skort tours ef a day which could be made to old mining diggings which have much of historical lure to recommend them. It hes been suggested that the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce enthusiastically support San Juan in its annual Cherrv Festival and the possibility of Nevada City having a festival of its own has been suggested. Another group has figured we should use the slogan “Fly to Nevada City’’ and induce people to come here in their airplanes and from this locality they could branch out into almost any form of recrea‘tior.cl activity. To accomplish this of course, some improvement must be made to the Nevada City airport. , Many projects have been suggested by interested citizens for the highway committee to work upon more recommendations and come in for betterment of the mother. lode highwav No. 49 known as the Nevada City-Downieville highway. Much work remains in widening and straightening of this highway between here and Camptonville as well as from Camptonville to the North Fork of the Yuba River. Highway 20 which is receiving publciity at this time and known as Tahoe-Pacific Highway needs considerable work done upon it in the Bear Valley section in order to remove many sharp turns and grades. which have been responsible for many serjous accidents. The Chamber of Commerce feels that they can with profit lend their aid to the extension of Highway 20 to the Pacific Ocean in the vicinity of Fort Bragg. There would then be a highway clear across the state from the Pacific Ocean to Lake Tahoe which would give a complete cross section of all forms of recreation within the state. Nevada City as well as all other cities along this route would profit from increased travel brought about by the completion and _betterment of this really remarkable highway. Many people in Nevada City as well as Grass Valley are demanding that a safer and faster road be provided between the two cities. It has been suggested by some if Nevada City is to really grow its major traveled highway through it should be re-routed. Chamber recognizes the need for better roads to our operating mines and will work toward that end. These activities are but a part of. the many which the directors are considering and which have been recommended by interested parties. You can see the Chamber has a large program on which to work and in order to accomplish only a part of it we are going to have to have the whole hearted cooperation of the entire community. A High Mass at 8 o’clock Sunday world. Here is the way to peace, joy, : and world brotherhood and there is no other. ; , At this moment we are engaged inj the greatest war of all time. Other: wavs grew pelo in its presence. It is a war on land, in»the air. On the sea’ and under the sea, and no man canj. tell when it will stop. Even our own' country is honey-combed with traitors and those who do not appreciate our marvelous heritage of democracy and freedom, and the privilege of worshiping God according to the dictates of our conscience. In American forums, in senate chambers we are quibbling over the right to help those who are fighting for their lives, and to save democracy while Alexandria is burning. Men, women and children are being blown to pieces, the sound of the shelter alarm is becoming a nightmare, and life itself becomes a hazardous dare. In such a world do we not need this Easter Message? Over nineteen hundred years ago, it needed it, and' despite our boasted literary and scientific advancements we need this message as never before. Lets capitalize these words which mean so much to the world at this time. Christ the Lord is Risen today! Hallelujah! ‘“‘Go and tell my Disciples and: Peter that I have arisen and goeth before them into Jerusalem. Tarry ye in the Upper Room until ye are endued with power to message of sacrificial love and victory. It is not by air bombers, not by battleships but by the way of the upr per Room, the way of the Cross and the Resurrection that we shall win the world and men shall brothers be the world. over.
