The Tahoe Forest Service has had
a 60 tractor and seven ton grader
working on th Gilmore flying field
in Grass Valley for several days,
leveling the ground. This field is to
be used by the forest service plane
in summer flying srvice in forest fire
detecting and fighting units.

Kjorlie, presided at her first meeting as president of the Woman’s Improvement Club, this week, at which
time an Irish juniper tree was presented to the outgoing president,
Mrs. P.=G. Seadden.
-Mrs R. E. Harris is the new program chairman and has announced,
that the next meeting will be a
social session honoring the members
of the cast of ‘‘Kempy”’ the three act
comedy recently presentéd under the
auspices of the Club and which
netted the library fund a neat sum.
The club continued its work at
the library by purchasing lawn seed
and fertilizer and having
grounds -put in order:Attend Matinee
Members of the club attended the
matinee picture ‘‘Alexander Hamilton,’”’ with George Ariiss, Thursday
afternoon.’ Proceeds of this show
were given to the high school student body scholarship fund.

first spring meeting at the Chamber
of Commerce rooms Tuesday, April
19th at 2:45 o’clock. The topic will
be “Seed Planting,’. Miss Gertrude
Goyne is chairman of this committee. : ;
A committee was appointed to
ewonfer with the Chamber of Commerce regarding publicity markers
placed to direct tourists to the old
mines where President Hoover
started his mining career. The mines
re said to be the Reward, near the
Nevada City-Grass Valley highway,
and the Harmony mine on the ridge.

of the Masons when an address will

of the city are looking forward with
much anticipation to the Junior
Prom to be heid Friday, April 15th.

with the assistance of members of
the Junior Class have decorated
Redmen’s hall for\ the occasion, the
theme of which is being kept secret.
The Nevada City orchestra will
furnish music for the affair and refreshments will be served during the
evening.
This is one of the most important
occasions on the Nevada City high
school calendar. A very pleasant
evening is planned for all who at_
tend and a large turnout of the local
people is expected.
Tickets are on sale at Foley’s and
Colley’s in Nevada City and at the
Blue Bird in Grass Valley.

ROAD IS OPEN
The road to Morres Flat and the
Graniteville section via Bloody Run
is.open to traffic and in fair condition. Considerable snow is to be
found on this road between Pete
Johnsons and Graniteville. The stage
is being run on sleighs between
Snow Tent mill and Graniteville,
making that road impassable to automobile travel.
