APRIL 22, 23, 24
Jane Barton has shown thousands of housewives how to take
their homes out of the horse and buggy era—how to experience the real thrill of romance in a modern home. This year’s
program has been broadened to include a complete discussion
of the Federal Housing Administration’s plans which enable
every housewife to have a properly equipped kitchen, a modern bathroom and charming modernizations of all kinds with
the least possible outlay.
Mrs. Barton presents three afternoons with dozens of delightfully simple recipes which she will prepare before your very
eyes. Let Jane Barton show you the short cuts through the
day's routine, the economical ways to use “leftovers” and the
sure and certain methods of escaping the ruts of routine
drudgery. The Homecraft Institute is absolutely free, It is
brought to you under the joint auspices of :
THE NEVADA CITY NUGGET
and The Pacific Rural Press, the nation’s finest farm paper.

(By C. J. EVERETT)
Early in 1933, shortly after
President Roosevelt affixed his signature to the document which marked the inception of the Civilian
Conservation Corps, providing a new
outlet for a bewildered youth of this
nation, over two hundred youths recruited from the many sections of
California entered the scented forests of Ponderosa pine which blanket the California foothills leading to
the snowy grandeur of the high Sierras, and here began

truck trails, fire breaks, and telephone lines, which are adding mijllions yearly to the value of this, one
of the nation’s most
sources.
Here, where once the hardy miner
of ’49 panned the roaring American
river as it rushed through its thousand foot canyon, today an equally
bronzed son lays an airline’ so that
a road might be hewed from the titaniec grandeur of its rock walls,

work, Few ‘serious fires have occurred in the last three years, for
many small fires have been detected
and with negligible
damage. This very valuable work by
the CCC men has insured a stand of
fine timber for future generations
and at the same time preserved the

hinterland, which is noted for its
rapid streams, monumental grandeur, and the green and multicolored
panorama of its virgin forests and
many colored mountain flowers.
During their stay with the Civiljan. Conservation Corps, its members have acquired many useful and

feeling of loyalty, civic consciousness, and closeness to the governmeént.° Theirs is indeed a task well
