MINING NEWS IDAHO-MARYLAND MINES INC. ‘Shaft number two, or the circular she.t at the Idaho-Maryland mine, is being equipped with a skip and other equipment and will be com-. pleted in about 10 days. Work is . progressing splendidly at the For-. bestown properties taken over in the last two years. It is reported construction of a 400 ton daily capacity Marcie mill will be started soon} to handle the gold bearing’ gravel. The Idaho-Maryland company has taken over several new properties. in recent weeks, enlarging their holdings to several hundred acres. An extensive development program is peing earried out on the group testing gravel deposits for gold content. Mr. Errol MacBoyle is general manager of all the properties. MURCHIE MINE The new shaft at the Murchie mine is down 2050 feet which is 450 feet below the level of the old workings. The new shaft. lacks several hundred feet of holing through to the surface near the mili. It is understood this will not be completed for a time as ore is being mined at different levels in the mine. Mr. George Kervin is superintendent. PHOENIX GROUND Work on a small scale is being carried on at the Phoenix mine be low Grass Valley. A new shaft sunk in recent months givé$ promise of making another producer for the camp. ALTA MONTE PROPERTY The Alta Monte gravel mine .at Alta, with Superintendent W. M. Wilkinson in charge, will start operations this month. The property is fully equipped to mine. A 225 foot shaft is on the old Nary-Red gravel thannel which was extensively mined/in the 90’s by the Alta Mining Company. BULLION MINE Mining continues within their restricted area in the Bullion mine. A suit between the North Star-Empire and Bullion property has not been settled. The new Alaska shaft on property under option to the Bullion is down 500 feet and a station is being cut. A dry house and several other buildings are to be built at the new Alaska shaft. The property is two miles south of Grass’ Valley. PENNSYLVANIA MINE The Pennsylvania mine in Browns Valley which had the shaft flooded during a recent storm, has been unwatered and development work shows a strong vein of quite satisfactory ore. Mr. E. R. Bennett, former superintendent of the Zeibright, was transferred to the property about two weeks ago. MARKS MINE Within the last two months a crew of five has drifted 200 feet on the ledge on the Marks property northwest of Nevada City. They are prospecting the ledge as development progresses. Mr. James Allen’ is in eharge of operations. NEW HOME BUILDING Mr. and Mrs. Leon Christensen are building a home on a lot they purchased in the old Hurley tract northeast of Nevada City.
