CAMPTONVILLE, April 19.—The
Womens Club of Camptonville heid
the first public card party of the
season at the local store Friday evening with a larger crowd than was
anticipated. Seven tables of cards
were in operation, playing whist, five
hundred and pedro, and some of the
local card sharks had an opportunity}
to display their ability. First prize .
was won by Mrs. Louisa Price, with .
Myron Pauly winning second, Mrs.
Carrie Rose and A. H. Behrens winning consolation prize, and Warren
Pauly winning the door prize. Delightful refreshments were served atter the games were over. A very de-}
lightful time was had and the club's!
treasury was benefited by the affair. The committee in charge of the!
party was composed of Miss Kathryne Pauly, Mrs. Ralph Gleason and
. Mrs. Frank W. Meggers.

Thursday ‘afternoon little Beverly
Elaine Flynn celebrated her sixth
birthday by having as party at her

home on Broad street. Seven little
friends were invited to spend the afternoon with her. They had a iovely
time playing games and at four thirty enjoying the dainty refreshments
served by Beverley’s mother. The
little friends who enjoyed the afternoon with Beverly were: Mary June,
Lotus Wales, Bernice White, Jean
Clark, Naomie . Clelland, Norma
. Fletcher, Donna Fletcher, Betty Sattler and Sonny Sattler.

to Camptonville Club
CAMPTONVILLE, April 16.—The
' Womens club of Camptonville held
'a special meeting Thursday evening
;at the home of Miss Lesta H. Joubert on Main street. The object of
,;the meeting was to decide upon a
card index system and other phases
of the operation of the Camptonville
. free library which institution the
womens club. is sponsoring.
Following the ‘business, delightful refreshments were served by the
hostess Miss Joubert. The meeting
proved both successful and enjoyable. Misses Mary Hackley, Dorothy
Hays and Harriet Church were the
guests at this meeting.

Mr. and Mrs,-Frank Farmer of
Robinson Heights entertained Sunday at a delicious dinner and afternoon honoring the twenty third wedding anniversary of.Mr. and Mrs.
Roy Stanley. The Farmer home was
decorated with a profusion of beautiful spring flowers.
Those present were, Mr. and Mrs.
Roy Stanley, Mr. and Mrs. William
Osborne, Dr. and Mrs. David Reeder
and son, Jack Reeder and Mrs. Verda Arnhart of Sacramento.
Mrs. Clara Searfe of Boulder
Street left Thursday for San Francisco where she will stay for a time.
After a stay there she will proceed
to Hollywood where she will visit
with her son, George Osterman, and
wife. :
Mr. and Mrs. H. McClain and two
children, Alice and Sonnie, of Alleghany spent three or four days in
Grass Valley and Nevada City visiting friends. They stated there were
still two feet of hard packed snow in
their back yard.
Mrs. Howard Burr left for San
Francisco on. the seven o’clock bus
this ‘morning having been called by
the sudden passing of her uncle
whom she had visited only a short
time ago.
Dr. D. Reeder of this city stated
two bus loads of Townsendites will
make the trip toJSacramento Wednesday evening to hear Dr. Francis
E. Townsend speak.
Mr, and Mrs. J. Y. Burnett of Sacramento spent the week end in Nevada City with their son, Floyd Burnett and wife. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd
Burnett accompanied them to Sacramento last evening and returned to
Nevada City this morning.
‘Miss Rhea Rupert, Mrs. Margaret
Miller and child of Piedmont visited
Camp Fire Girls headquarters on
Lake Vera during the week end. Several improvements are being made at
Camp Piedmont.
Mrs. Karl Koppreturned to Nevada City Thursday after a five
weeks vacation. with her. daughter,
Mrs. J. Ceresteto and family in Oakland.
Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Brown and
two children of Loomis visited Clarence Osborne and family of Coyote
street in the last few days.
~ Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Foote of
Grass Valley and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Jackson. of this city went to
San Francisco Saturday. Messrs.
Foote and Jackson’ returned last
night while their wives remained to
spend this week in the city.

Mrs. George Sleep of Grass Valley
who has been demonstrating electric refrigeration in the Grass Valley office of the P. G. & E. will he
in the Nevada City office of P. G. &
E. on Tuesday and Wednesday of
next week, April 27 and 28.
Mrs. Sleep will demonstrate the
use of the Kelvinator which has been
loaned by the Alpha Stores, Ltd: and
of the Frigidaire, which has been
loaned by Cliff deBerry, who has recently opened a salesroom at
corner of Pine and Commercial in
the Daniels building. .
Mrs. Sleep will specialize in the
making of salads and desserts and
how to keep them under perfect refrigeration. The Nevada City ladies
are cordially invited to attend the
demonstration which will be. held
from 12:45 until 4:45 o’clock.

Miss Christy Jane Holmes of
Glenbrook Heights and John Bertino of Grass Valley were married in
St. Patrick’s Catholic church in
Grass. Valley by Father J. J. O’Meara at 12:30 yesterday. Mrs. Beth
Wilson of Nevada City was matron
of honor and Carlton Carter of
Grass Valley was best man. Little
Helen Margaret Holmes, sister of
the bride, was flower girl. The
bride’s father, A. M. Holmes, gave
her away in marriage.
The bride wore a_ white satin
gown and carried white calla lilies
and a white prayer book. The bridesmaid wore a yellow’ gown. The
church was decorated in white and
yellow. In the home calla lilies and
pink snap dragons decorated the
hall. The banquet table was resplendent with candles, flowers and favors
all in white.
Mrs. Berton is a charming and
accomplished young woman. She is a
native of Nevada City and after completing school has acted as secretay
to her father in Holmes Funeral
Home in Nevada City, and HolmesHooper Home in Grass Valley.
The groom is a well known young
man of Grass Valley and is in the
employ of the People’s: Market in
that city.

school will act as hosts to student
body members and town folks at the
annual Junior Prom, a highlight social event of the year on Friday,
April 28, in Armory Hall.
Girls are busily hurrying and
scurrying around, getting formals
and other feminine apparel for the
affair. Although the Juniors do not
like to reveal the theme of the prom,
they have hinted that the hall will
be beautifully decorated and that
