The company has a lease on the Jack Bawden tailings dam wihi-c2 contains many thousands of yards of gravel from which a sattst achory yield of gold is being ictal pd: The property is on Kanaka Crek below the town of Alleghany. Mr. Macabee superintendent has 15 men employed. Bob Srader, truckman of Alleghany, hauled a circus tent 36 by 24 feet from Colfax to the Kanaka Corporation property at Alleghany the latter part of last week. Mr. Srader stated it was to be used by one man for a home and he has decided to ask for one ‘corner to batch in as he feels the owner will have plenty of room and some to spare. Mr. and Mrs. Jess Moomey and children of Anderson, spent the week end as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Cleland and Mocmey’s father, in Nevada City. Mr. Moomey is with the Standard Oil company in the Shasta county area and states the big Central Valleys project is making splendid times for his section. DENTIST ‘TOURS SCHOOLS IN TEETH EXAMINATION Dr. Frank T. Jones, of the State Department of Public Health, Bureau of Child Hygiene, will continue his dental examination in the rural schools this week. Dr. Jones requests to have preschool ‘children over three years of age at these schools for examination. Mrs. Gregory Allen of Victoria, B. C., who spent the winter in Ne‘vada City with her brother, Bert Foreman and family and in Los An-j geles with other relatives left a faw days ago for her home. She has had several parties given in her« honor, whilé here. Mrs. Allén was accompanied home by her little niece, Iva Foreman who is expected to spend the summer there for her health ané if it beneficial she may remain longer, She will also visit with many other relatives in the same section. eS Te HIGH SCHOOL NOTES By MARY MARTZ JUNIOR PROM The junior prom was a_ success . bot 4 in finances and enjoyment. A ltarge crowd danced to the. music of chestra. The theme of the nrom was trees and the hall was well decorated with cedar trees.and blue and gold crepe paper. Refreshments in the out door court, which was well decoratéd and filled with little tables. This was the first! formal dance at the new gymnasium is one that was presented and David McCraney followed by Lorraine Harry and John Muscardini. The march was very impressive and several new formations were introduced. The Home Economics club held a . meeting Wednesday and decided wpon a social gathering on Friday evening, April 29. The girls will meet at the fire places in Pioneer park and have a ‘‘weewnie roast’. Sylvia Ronnig is chairman of the refreshment committee. The girls are under the direction of Miss McKnight and they look forward to a great deal of enjoyment. Friday. AUNT OF MRS. TREDENNICK PASSES t Mrs Fred Tredinnick received the sad news Wednesday of the death of her aunt, Miss Mary Pierce in Oakland. Miss Pierce was born in Racine, Wis., and lived in North San Juan a number of years before moving to Oakland to live with relatives. She leaves many nieces and nephews. IDAHO MARYLAND TAILINGS DAM COVERS. 20 ACRES In order to give farmers along Wolf Creek clear water for the irrigating season the Idaho Maryland Mines Company, Inc., has spent considerable money and time enlarging and improving their tailings dam located near the big mine plant. The dam has been raised ten feet to make it about 50 feet high and it covers; about 20 acres of ground. A new flume has been built and.a 42 inch pipe line extends into-the dam. The company has experimented with cement as a settling factor and finds it quickly clarifies the«water whiclr is practically clear it is flows over the higher dam into Wolf Creek. Men are employed three shifts to watch the water and take samples which are assayed for sand content, from time to time. Fourteen men are employed on the Loma Rica ranch, owned ‘by the company, and which is partly planted to a fruit orchard, besides rearing fine cattle and horses. The mines. at Forbestown which are being developed by the Idaho Maryland company employs 122 men, an increase over last figures given out.
