IDAHO MARYLAND TAILINGS
DAM COVERS. 20 ACRES
In order to give farmers along
Wolf Creek clear water for the irrigating season the Idaho Maryland
Mines Company, Inc., has spent considerable money and time enlarging
and improving their tailings dam located near the big mine plant. The
dam has been raised ten feet to make
it about 50 feet high and it covers;
about 20 acres of ground. A new
flume has been built and.a 42 inch
pipe line extends into-the dam. The
company has experimented with cement as a settling factor and finds it
quickly clarifies the«water whiclr is
practically clear it is flows over the
higher dam into Wolf Creek. Men are
employed three shifts to watch the
water and take samples which are
assayed for sand content, from time
to time.
Fourteen men are employed on the
Loma Rica ranch, owned ‘by the company, and which is partly planted to
a fruit orchard, besides rearing fine
cattle and horses. The mines. at
Forbestown which are being developed by the Idaho Maryland company
employs 122 men, an increase over
last figures given out.
