NEWS OF NEVADA CITY HIGH SCHOOL
The high school choir led by
William Tobiassen, sang for the
Parent-Teachers association last
Monday evening in the study hall
at high school. The chorus sang
four numbers, “Now the. Day Is
Over,” “The World: Is Waiting
for the Sunrise,” “God So Loved
the World,’ and “Through a
Long and Sleepless Night.”
The English I class taught by
Warren Immel, is having a series of pictures on the comma,
quotation marks, colon, semi colon. The pictures are in color
and are presented by Popular
Science. A test is to follow these
pictures and is scheduled to be
given today.
The high school chorus ‘sang
for Rotary club yesterday afternoon. They presented “Toyland”
and several other popular choral
arrangements.

10,757 CITIZENS ARE
ELIGIBLE TO VOTE IN
COUNTY PRIMARIES
A total of. 10,757 citizens of
Nevada county are eligible to
vote in the primary election on
Tuesday, June 6, according to an
announcement this week by the
county clerk, Ralph E. Deeble.
Deeblesaid itis an increase of
1,027 voters over the registered
list of. last November’s special
election.
Deeble said 6,087 reigstered as
Democrats and 4,276 are registered Republicans.
Both figures represent an increase of approximately 250.
California is the only state in
. the nation in which iodine is pro. duced.

‘2900 CASES ARE
INVESTIGATED IN
NEVADA COUNTY
The sheriff's officd investigated
2,000 cases and the probation ofing the past year, according to a
report released by Richard W.
Hoskins, sheriff. The report also
showed 405 arrests by the gheriff’s office, 314 of which resulted
in ‘trials.
The report was submitted to
Attorney General Frederick N.
Howser by Hoskins in compliance with a request from the attorney general’s office.
Breakdown of: the cases revealed that 35 were in Nevada City
court, 37 in Truckee justice court,
120 in Grass Valley justice court,
47 in Nevada City justice court,
52. in superior court and 18 in
juvenile court.
Disposition of the convictions
showed 116 spent time in the
county jail, 10 were sent to penitentiaries, 56 were fined, 42 were
placed on probation, 12 sent to
mental institutions and_ eight
were turned over to the California youth authority.
Hoskins reported .405 arrests in
the year’s period, 41 for other
counties and six for investigation.
A majority of the cases investigated were dropped for lack of
complaint signature, Hoskins reported.
Commenting on the report the
sheriff said “law enforcement in
Nevada county ‘is good, but we
are undermanned and _underpaid: Sve ”
Hoskins reported recent installation: of state teletype; * police
camera and wire recorder.
An aero squadron has been recently formed Hoskins said that
works with a mounted and ski
posse.

reports and tax liabilities are
urged to meet with the auditor.

with the employment office manager, Paul Paye, at Grass Valley.
