FRENCH CORRAL, April (Special. to The Nuggete)—The last day of March and no rain yet. The old “lion”? muht be dead. In this section, we aré anxious for a rain for Many reasons ,but we have no “‘Hatfields,’’ so ntust patiently await what April may bring. We hope to have irrigation water enough for the summer, a crew of ‘men, have been busy for the past weeks doing repair work on ditches and resérvoirs and flumes. We believe the work is about completed. W4 are pleased to state that Mr. Thos. Hall of Birchville, who has deen ill for the past two weeks with pneumonia, is slowly recovering. His son, Chas Hall of Folsom, has made frequent visits and brought their home physician with him. Miss Lucy O’Connor, trained nurse, has charge of the case. Through an oversight, we omitted mention in, last week’s items of an auto accident in which ex-residents of French Corral were concerned. Mrs. Thos. Fogarty, Mrs. Verne Fogarty and two little children and Mrs. Wm. Carrpenter of Marysville, were coming from Sacramento, Mrs. V. Fogarty was driving. Their machine skidded and overturned twice, Mrs. Thos. Fogarty was badly cut about the face and head, one rib broken. Mirs. Carpenter was badly hurt in shoulders and breast. The rest escaped with a few scratches. Both ladies are still confined to their beds. Mrs. Thos. Fogarty is a sister of W. E. Moulton of this place. Mr. Frank Davey and Mr. Jack Loptz of Pleasant Valley were Thursday visitors. Mr. and Mrs, R. McNamara of TyJer visited relatives here during the week. John Langley and mining men from from Los Angeles had business here during the week. Wm. Gordon was a visitor from the mountains this week. Mrs. J. McCullough, Miss Miller Clerkin and Mr. F. Flynn of Nevada City visited friends in Birchville ‘and French Corral Sunday. G. T. Sweetland, who has been staying in Sweetiand for some time, returned to French Corral this week. Mrs. E. Culver, The Angel of Death is again busy among our friends. We extend our deepest sympathy to the family of ‘W. W. Washburn. Mrs. Washburn’s son, Lester Crawford, passed away at the Jones Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley yesterday. While not a native of the Ridge, Lester attended school and grew to young manhood in San Juan where the family has resided for many years, He was well known and beloved by all. His step father, W. W. Washburn; has the stage line from San Juan to Smartsville. We were sorry to learn of the death of Miss Tillie Tierson, who passed away in Oakland récently. She was a daughter of one of San Juan’s good pioneer families and beloved by all. In her girlhood she qualified L— . for school teaching and followed the professin, all her life. rd News has come of the death of another whom we numbered with our “French Corral boys,’ rey, M. and Condelin Darneal, passed away in Berkeley.
