DONALD STEGER HOME NEARING COMPLETION The cosy five room home of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Steger is fast nearing completion. t is located at the west end of Prospect street adjoining the home of Mrs. Flynn. recent visitor in Nevada City. Miss Katherin Celio and brother, Gove, returned this morning from a week end visit in the bay region. While there they visited Old Ironsides and had a most enjoyable irip. Mrs. Lily Rodgers, who has spent the winter in “Alleghany with her daughter, came down Saturday for a visit with another daughter, Mrs. Louis Davidson and family of this city. : Miss Betty Bettles, student at the University of California at Berkeley, is spending her spring vacation her with her parents, Mr.-and Mrs. Gordon Bettles. Mr. and Mrs. Will Young motored to Sacramento Tuesday and Mr. Young took another treatment at the Sisters hospital. He stood the trip well and is getting along favorably. Buckner motored to Downieville Wednesday, taking stereopticon views along to assist in the sermon Rey. Buckner delivered that evening and returned home the same evening. Mrs. Will Sharp and young son were among those going down to see Old Ironsides last Saturday. Gene Pierce, a brother of Mrs. J. J. Jackson, is visiting Mrs. Jackson in this city. He comes from Salt Lake City. A recent letter from Mr. Walmsleys father who lives in Los Angeles told of the €arthquake Shaking every chimney down in his bungalow court, and broke all the dishes. They installed metal chimneys and as soon as completed a heavy rain came. Will Hatch, who is employed at the Murchie mine, suffered an injury to his right eye a few days ago when a piece of rock struck him in the pupil of the eye. He is in the Jones Memorial hospital at Grass Valley receiving treatment for the injury. Mr. and Mirs. Charles Guenther, Jr., and children of Yreka, spent the week end in Nevada City with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Guenther, Sr. They had been to Sacramente to the specialist who has been treating their little daughters knee. A report just issued by the state department of education and covering the biennium ending June 30, 1932 reveals that free textbook purchases for elementary schools in Nevada county totaled $1,231. Half of the cost of furnishing free text books to elementary schools has been borne. by the local school districts, the school superintendent said. The proposed reduction will be opposed by organized labor, parent teachers associations and educational authorities, the official said.
