SACRAMENTO, April 2.—Santa
Barbara county today has the distinction ‘of being California’s outstanding leader in reduction of mo{tor vehicle fatalities on rural highCredited with a 1935 decrease of
24 deaths from. motor vehicle accidents compared with fatalities — of
1934, the coast county has been honored by award to its California Highway Patrol unit of the state chamker of commerce trophy annualll¢
presented. for reduction of highway
deaths. The award was announced
today by E. Raymond Cato, chief of
the highway patrol. ©
Alameda county gained second in
the reduction of deaths on _ rural
highways, listing 17 fewer deachs
in 19385 than in 1934. Kern county
was third with 15 fewer deaths, Stanislaus was fourth with 13, San Joaquin was fifth with 12 and San* Luis
Obispo was sixth with ten.
Los Angeles county showed the
greatest increase in rural highway
fatalities, in 1935, recording 36
more deaths from motor vehicle accidents than in 1934. San Diego

Notice is hereby given that a general Municipal Election will be held
jn the City of Nevada, on Tuesday,
the 14th day of April, 1936, for the
election of the ‘following officers:
Three trustees for the full term of
four years.
There will be one voting precinct
for the purpose of holding said election, consisting of the consolidation
of the regular election precincts established for holding state,or county
elections, as follows: Consolidated
voting precincts “A,” comprising
state and county precincts numberéa1,-2, 3, 4-and-5, and the polling
place thereof shall be Armory Hall
on Broad Street. The polls shall be
open between the hours of 8 a. m.
and 6 p. m.

fatalities, according, to’ Chief Cato,
occurred between intersections on
the open road, 1092 or 78.5 per cent
of the 1391 deaths of the year having
taken place in this area. Intersections were the scene of 212, om15.24
per cent, of the fatalities, and ‘railroad crossings, bridges and _ piers,
etc., were the places for 24 deaths
resulting from motor vehicle accidents.
A total of 966 of the rural deaths
in 1935 occurred on arteries of the
state highway system and 425 were
recorded on the county roads.
