Weenie Roast Party at Gold Flat‘Miss Edna Doolittle and June Hawke entertained at a weenie roast Saturday evening. They gathered at the home of Miss Doolittle’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Doolittle on Gdld Flat at 7:30 and went into the woods near the rock crusher at the old Pittsburgh mine. After enjoying toasted weenieS, games were played until 10:30, the group went to the carnival im Grass Valley. Theatre Party for Neighborly Club Instead of a regular meeting and luncheon the Neighborly Club of Harmony Ridge yesterday afternoon gave a surprise theatre’ party to their secretary, Mrs. William L. Davies. Mrs. Davies has served most efficiently as secretary for two terms, having been elected as their first secretary. and_re-elected last fall. Yestreday the members gathered in the early afternoon and came to Nevada City to attend the matinee and hear ‘“‘Llodys of London.” The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Charles Luce. Mrs. Fred Garrison Entertains at Whist Mrs. Fred Garrison entertained with luncheon and six tables of whist Tuesday, April 27. The occasion was to have been a lawn party, but the elements were against it. Many plans for the party had to be ‘omitted because of change of location. The tables were set up indoors and all had a most enjoyable time even though it hailed and rained heavliy. Prize winners were awarded new transparent novelties in various colors, and were won as follows: Mrs. Lloyd George,\Mrs. Beamer, Miss Calanan, Mrs. Hendricks and Mrs. H. Snyder and Mrs. Sargent were in Nevada City: during the week making preparations for the coming season of summer vacations on the lake. (Mr. and Mrs; Fred Sauvee returned Sunday evening from a. two week’s vacation at Wilbur Springs, mineral springs of Colusa county. Both were greatly benefitted by the trip. Mr. Sauvee having practically recovered from a recent serious illness. Mr, and.Mrs. Sauvee were pleased with the courtesies of Manager and Mrs. Louis Ross. — The springs will open tomorrow, May first. The district is -beautiful now, with many wild flowers in blossom. Pet deer, big bucks, does and fawns from the nearby game preserve are about the springs much of the time. GATE (BRIDGE IS WQRLD’S LONGEST The Golden Gate Bridge with the longest clear span in the world, 4200 feet is three times the length of the Brooklyn bridge and 700 feet longer than the George Washington Memorial bridge in New York. Sight-seers will be able to cross it for the first time at the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge fiesta May 27 in San Francisco. BOWMAN MINE Casey and. Johnson resumed operations on their property the Bowman mine about seven miles south of Alleghany in the last few days. Heavy snow has melted so that the men are able to get around. It is a quartz property and ore holds good
