PAGE FOUR _ Another of the old river channels ‘in: Butte county, California, has been pened by the Dix Butte Mining Co. and will be producing gold in a few weeks. Frank Maloney, president of the company, was in’ Reno with sev“eral ounces of coarse gold extracted “from the gravel struck in araise ‘from the tunnel through which oper=ations will be conducted, which he brought from the mine. The display “included several nuggets containing $5 to $25 each. The Dix Butte channel is about fifteen miles north and west.of the “Genii property and cuts the great Willard dike at its widest point. This ‘ dike is one of the principal sources of gold contained in these ancient rivers. Wherever they have been “opened a rich harvest of gold has ‘been made. Six men, placer miners of experiente, worked for eight years to develop the Dix Butte channel, driving acrosscut tunnel 2,400 feeta nd a raise 185 feet to reach the gravel. ‘Two years ago, with resources exhausted, they sought financial aid iO. complete the work. The Dix Butte * Mining Co. took over the property and supplied funds for new. equipment. The original owenrs, Harry -Sheehy, Andrew Engstrom, Carl Slocum, J. M. Kellar, John Sund, and A. Benedium, stayed with the pro‘ject and became employees of the * company. The Dix Butte Mining Co. droye * the tunnel ahead $00 feet to a point * under the channel and raised up to ‘ the bed of the river. Three coats of asphaltic oil to be applied in construction of said pavement as is customary in standard highway construction in the following quantities: First application, % gallon per square yard; 2nd application % gallon per square yard; 3rd application 1% gallon Per square yard. Said oil to be heated to not less than 360° or more than 400° Fahrenheit. Item 5A.—Rental per hour of 60H. P. catapillar tractor and scraper and blader with operator. Bids willbe opened at City Hall at 8 p. m. on Wednesday, August 27, 1930. Board reserves the right to reject any and all bids. Specifications of suitable pavement is on file at the City Hall.
