LOW GRADE ORE PAYS BEST AT UTAH MINE By GAIL MARTIN Salt Lake City, Aug. 1—Some interesting and valuable facts concerning Utah non-ferrous mining are brought out by a study of the rePorts made to the state board of equalization by Utah companies. The first of these is that the most money in Utah was made in 1929 as in every other year by the Utah Copper Co. from treating the lowest grade ore mined in the state. Utah Copper, with an ore containin Igess value than coal or a gross of $2.99 a ton, amassed a total gross yield of $53,125,300 from the mining of 17,724100 tons of ore. The richest ore was shipped by Loeffler Palmer from his “one man” Rube mine in the Deep Creek dis-' trict, Gold Hill, Utah. Palmer operates most of the time alone. He mines narrow seams of gold quartz. A graduate engineer, assayer and exPert miner of wide experience, he is able to clean up a tidy sum each year. During 1929 his Product had an average per ton value of $105.20 His mining cost. was $27.10, the highest in the state supplying proof for the mining axiom that the higher . rade the product the hiher will be the cost of mining. Utah’s only other gold mine reporting net proceeds jig the Eureka , Standard of the Tintic Standard . Mining Co. The Eureka Standard’ sg . product averaged $23.03 in gold with mining costs of $11.03 a ton. Next to the Utah Copper the largest producers were two silver-lead . Mines, the Silver King Coalition of . erage of $34.08 a ton. ‘The Bingham Prospect, the Ps A. Hogle property, shipped the highest grade product from Bingham. Bingham Prospect ore averaged $22.79 during 1929. shippers with regard to value of Park Utah third. However, in the Product. New Quincy was second and surpassed other Park City mines. Some remarkably. low mining costs were attained during 1929 by Tintic Mines. Centennial Eureka costs were but $1.74 a ton and Empire Mines $3.43 a very low average for this type of mining. Tintic Standard costs amounted to $12.08 for the year, North Lily to $8.77 a ton and Silver King Coalition $3.57 a ton. Utah Copper with a cost of 44c a ton was, of course, the lowest cost producer in Utah. Bingham Prospect’s cost amounted to $8.78 a ton, Utah Copper led with net proceeds of $26,526,766, or $16.37 per share and dividend disbursements for the year were $16.37. Silver King Coalition had the largest net proceeds total of the silverlead mines, this item amounting to $1,726514 or $1.41-a share. Dividends of $1.20 a share were paid, leaving 21¢e a share for sunplus. Incidentally, it might be noted that the Silver King Coalition was the only company to keep its dividend disbursements within the compass of its net proceeds. Tintic Standard’snet proceeds amounted to $1,190,639 or $1.03 a . share as compared with dividend distark City with a gross yteld of bursements of $1.30 a share_Min. $4,868,969 and the Tintic Standard . ing Press. of Eureka with $4,275,543.
