As Premier Aberhart’s government belatedly moves to establish ‘‘social credit’’ a year after being elected on the promise to bring about Utopia with this monetary abracadabra, most Albertans are willing to admit they don’t expect it to work. HAS SPENT $903,142.900 IN CALIFORNIA WASHINGTON, Aug. 13.— A Works Progress’ Administration. report showed today a total of $203,142,900 was spent in California under the $4,880,000,000 relief appropriation act of 1935. The report covered expenditures for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1936. , Allocations by the President embracing projects approved by Federal authorities but not necessarily under way or completed, totaled $269,719,418. Actual obligations incurred, or projects for which funds have been expended or are obligated for expenditure, aggregated $252,246,173. »Obligations incurred were for purely WPA work relief projects and those carried out by the Agriculture, Interior, Commerce and Treasury departments, phe Civilian Conservation Corps, Army Engineers. Resettlement and Veterans’ administrations and other agencies. ‘TO REMAIN AVAILABLE The $1,425,000,000 relief appropriation act passed by the 74th Con‘gress covers such unexpended balances of the 1935 appropriation ‘‘as may be made available by the President’’, the report said. These funds are to remain available until June 20, 1937, and are to be used at the discretion of the President. ! Men and women employed by the California State WPA, exclusive of administrative employees, averaged 152,516 during March, 1936, the report showed. Men workers totaled 120,344 or 78.9 per cent, and women 32,172, or 21.1 per cent. Average wage rate for the month was $61.99. Average for. men was $61.99, for women, $62.02. ARBOGAST . . { f . a Z LAST RITES FOR MRS. WHITE IN SACRAMENTO The sad news has reached Nevad White aged 65 years, in Sacramento Wednesday morning. She has been ill about four years. Mrs. White was a native’of Nevada City and resided here until about five years s0. when she moved to Sacramento to be near her ¢hildren. She is survived by six children and six grand children, and’a cousin and brother in law. The children are Mrs. Alma Burrows, Mrs. Dorris Snyder and Mr, Alfred Hitchens; all of Sacramento; Mrs. Alda Harris of Oakland and Mrs. Verda Isham of Woodland. Mrs. Robert Stedger of Nevada City is a cousin, and Mr. George Hitchens, merchant of this city is a brother in law. Mrs. White was loved and esteemed by hosts of friends in Nevada City. She was a member of Neva Rebekah lodge and Laurel Parlor, N. D. G. W., of Nevada City. Funeral services will take place this morning at 10 o’clock in Sacramento. L936 ORANGE SHERBERT Part one—One half cup sugar. 2 cups orange juice. 2 tablesspoonsful lemon juice, Part 2—One half cup sugar. One fourth cup water. Salt. 2 egg whites. Stir together the ingredients ‘of part one until the sugar is dissolved. Place in the freezing tray and freeze until mushy. Then boil the sugar and water as given in part 2 to the thread stage. Slowly pour this over the _ stiffly beaten @hites to which the salt has been added and beat until cold. Fold this into the mixture that has been frozen to the mushy stage, return to the tray to finish freezing. Twice during the freezing process transfer to a chilled bowl. and beat thoroughly.
