Nine, leaders of Valley League The Grass Valley Miners will face the Yuba City Bears at. Watt Park in in a crucial Sacramento Valley League contest. A win for the Miners Sunday and a victory the following Sunday in the game with Redding will give them the second half pennant and _ the right to play Chico, first half title holders, for the league championship. CONCRETE POURED AT UPPER NARROWS DAM IS 200,000 CUBIC YARDS Vernon L. Glaze, United States engineer in charge of dam construction on the American and Yuba Rivers, announces 200,000 cubic yards of cement have been poured at the Upper Narrows Dam near Smartville . with 160,000 cubic: yards remaining to be poured. The concrete is being, poured at the rate of about 1,200 ‘cubic yards per day. Glaze also announced the Bishop Construction Company of Long Beach has’ commenced the work of bringing machinery to the North firms in the two yesterday afteremployees to! Fork Dam on the American River} for a $53,000 job on the construction of cement abutment slabs. INJUNCTION IS LIFTED AT SEVEN ACES MINE J. Hampton Larhbaiah, operator of the Seven Aces ‘Mine near Alleghany, said here this week an injunction preventing him from operating the mine pending a settlement of a dispute with his wife, has been lifted by a San Francisco superior court judge. Lashbaugh said it was probable he will resume work at the mine in the near future. Just prior to its shutdown more than a year ago because of the injunction a rich strike was reported at the mine. REMODELING UNDERWAY The remodeling of the mill and devélopment work .are the principal activities being carried on at the Pennsylvania Mine in Browns Valley. a property of the Empire-/} Mines Ltd., is managed by R. J. Hendricks, general manager of . the Murelie and Zeibright mines. HOFF AT KATE HARDY J. M. Hoff, who conducted mining ' operations in the Nevada City area during a period of aboyt 15 years, reportedly has taken a lease on the Kate Hardy Mine northwest of AIleghany. The mine is said to be an extension of the Brush Creek. Considerable development work is reported to have been done at the Kate Hardy. Vacationing in Oregon— Miss Elma ,Eden, employee of the Penrose Grocery, are enjoying a vacation in Oregon. and her mother] tempted rape. Previously his broth-! er, Steve Czoberek, 23.-was-taken-into custody on a charge of rapé. The charges against the two men were preferred late (Monday by the father of an 18 year old local girl. The rape and attempted rape re: . portedly took place early Sunday morning in the Willow Valley district. Officers stated Charles Czoberek was unsuccessful in his advances with the girl and then_his brother, Steve, offered to,drive her home, after leaving his brother at the hospital. Instead Steve, it was stated, drove into the Willow Valley area and committed the offense on which! he is charged. NO REGULATING OF TRAVEL ON SAN JUAN ROA State Highway Engineer more, stationed Marysville, notified H. F. Sofge, secretary The Whi'at has schoo! of the}* local chamber of commerce, the regulating of hours of travel over .the. Downieville. Highway “between here! and North San Juan, which is under . construction, is impossible because of the necessity of blasting during no set intervals. Sofge had written to Engineer Whitmore suggesting the road be Rept open during certain hours motorists traveling the route need not wait while blasting and debris clearing was going on. In his letter to’ Sofge, Whitmore asks the cooperation of the public on the much needed road repairing project and promises a good safe road when the construction work is completed. The road equipment has been mov-! ed to this side of the South Fork of; the Yuba River bridge. The highway repairing work is progressing rapidly, according to reports to Sofge., so} ANSWERS ALARM !
