To all out-. xe ward appearances the power Of Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin . 1s io iengeq, crushing persona! liberty, freedom . goes about uncha of speech and press and religion. . But underneath it is challenged—seriously challengede . Today haif the in a state of open or secret rebellion against the efforts to deify Hitler. Not only Jews and Catholics—-but Protestants, Masons, Veterans, and a host of other groups are united in opposition to the Nazi regime. And if they are not working too openly, they keep alive a network of underground opposition that is as powerful as it is determined. ae The peoples of the world have had a taste of democracy . and persona! liberty, and have found it too sweet to let it die. . If they are swayed from it by outbursts of intense nationalism, . " it is but transitory aberration. The groups who normally are a framework of in healthy opposition to each other within government which guarantees personal liberty eventually unite to defeat any force that attempts to subdue all others. It may be painful while it lasts. But Hitler will fall— eventually all dictatorship’ will fall. And ultimately the world will achieve a character of democracy that will never be subject to even a temporary imposition of tyranny.
