COLLEGE OPENS
ON AUGUST 31
Nevada county high school graduates will be welcomed at the Placer Junior College, in Auburn, which
opens its doors August 31, according

“T feel certain Nevada county students will find Placer Junior Colmeet their needs in both aioe can
college preparatory and basic vocational courses,’ said Dr. Napier.
‘“Grass Valley and Nevada City are
located such a short distance from
Auburn that it will be possible for
many students to live at home while
attending this college for two years.”
Dr. Napier today announced the
appointment of a faculty of sixteen
instructors, headed by Wyman Ol]-. who took his B. A. and M. A. from

Agriculture, commercial and university transfer will be
stressed. A strong course in geology
will be offered this year looking forcourses
practical mining. This course should
appeal to. the young men of this
region.
Courses will be given in fruit}
growing, soils, forestry and botany.
R. D. Richardson a graduate of
Utah State College, will give the
courses in agriculture, while Miss
from University of California in her
specialty will handle botany.
Strong commercial courses. featuring shorthand, typing, bookkeeping, accounting’ and commercial law
will also be given by Mr. Robert E.
Williams, a graduate of the College
of Commerce Oregon State College
and Mr. Richard A. Hoffman graduate of Stanford University.

Maryland milling equipment has been
completed and began active working
last Friday. Present leaching operations are in the nature of a test
run but will soon be operated to its
capacity of 400 tons a day on flotation slimes and the sands of the tailings lake.

Miss Etta Bankus of Nevada City
became the bride of Mr. Fern Richards of Sacramento at an impressive ceremony before Judge Thomas
E, Moran of Reno, Nevada, yesterday morning, August 15. The brides
sister and brother in law, .Mr. and
Mrs. John Hlinarich, accompanied
them to Reno and were witnesses to
the ceremony. A wedding breakfast
was served at the Mlinarich home
upon their return. In the evening the
bride’s father, J. A. Bankus, gave a
banquet and reception at his home
on West Spring street in honor of
the newly wedded couple. A large
crowd of relatives and friends were
present to wish them much happiness.
Late in the evening Mr. and Mrs.
_$on,
Richards departed for Sacramento
where they will reside. Mr. Richards
is an assayer on a gold dredge near
Sa'cramento. .
The bride is a charming young
woman. She was a candidate for the
Whiskerette queen for July 4th and
was an attendant on the beautiful
float. ;
With this marriage of this young
woman, Judge Moran has performed the third ceremony for three sisters. He married Mrs. Marry Jackof Illinois, Mrs. John Mlinirich of Nevada City and Mrs. Richards.
A couple-.of Iowans were discussing the drought.
