TO AID FIRE CONTROL
J. D. Rafferty, law enforcement
officer for the Tahoe National Forest, stated today that all sportsmen
in the Nevada City, Grass Valley and
Auburn areas are being contacted as
rapidly as possible on fire prevention
methods. All so far interviewed are
willing to cooperate 100 per cent.
They will serve as fire prevention officers, acting voluntarily.’ Identification cards are being prepared for
these men and officers are working
over time to get ready for opening of
hunting season. :
Orders have come from the state
division of forestry to issue no more
burning permits for burning brush,
trash, or blasting logs until further
notice. Due to the great number of
fires and unusually dry season this
precaution was deemed best.

ARE SUGGESTED
The Park Commission met this afternoon and brought wp suggestions
for improving Pioneers Park. Tony
Rore proposed having signs made
directing people to the ‘park, It was
also suggested that seed be sown in
the spring and have the ground
about the pool brightened by green
grass and flowers. The commission
will meet with the city council in an
effort to secure lights and bleachers
for the baseball park for, evening.
Sames next year, It was estimated
this would cost about $2,000. A request will be made to have the road
through the park oiled next season.
The park commission suggested the
pool be closed when interest lags in

LATE DORA WINNEY
Funeral services were held in Holmes Funeral Home chapel yesterday
afternoon for the late Mrs. Dora
Winney who passed away early Friday morning at the home of her son,
Claude EB. Winney, on the Tahoe
Ukiah highway. She was a native of
Ohio aged 71 years She came to Nevada City about twelve years ago to
reside with her son. She is survived
by the following sons and daughters,
E, E. Winney, Taft; C. E. Winney,
Nevada City; L. W. Winney, Grass
Valley; Mrs. Flossie Whipp and Mrs.
Hazel Chapman, Nevada City, besides
grandchildren, great grandchildren
and a brother and sister.

FOR GIACOMO ZANOCCO
Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon for the late Giacomo
“Jake” Zanocco, well known Nevada
City citizen who passed away in a
Sacramento hospital Friday morning
after several weeks illness. He was
64 years of age and a native of Italy.
He came to Nevada City over 45
years ago.
Left to mourn his passing are his
wife, Mrs. Zaira Zanocco. sons and
daughters, Fred Zanocco, Nevada
Zanocco, Mrs. Loretta Morandi, Grass
Valley with the following step-sons
and daughters,. Leon Duceschi, Miss
Lily Dueschi, Mrs. Elsie Gladriamire,
