Last week more than 22,000
leases were filed, compared with
4036 during the corresponding week
in July. During the six weeke under the Housing and ‘Rent Act of
1947 a total of 50,000 leases have
been signed. +
Ww. M. Bayless, area rent director,
of the Sacramento rent control office, reports that thus far his office
flag received 1,116 leases, and that
the mumber of leases being filed is
increasing steadily.

The average lease, Bayless said,
. calls for an increase of about 11 per
jeent in the rent rates, compared
with an average increase of 13 per
}eent for the nation. Many leases,
he sald, are being rejected by his
office because they are improperly
;eontain improper provisions, or call
or more than a 16 per cent increase

yielded 1400 ounces of gold, estimated at $22,500, ‘which was placed
in the Nevada county bank.
