ry » s ¥ : » presentative was not heard loudly declaring in its, behalf. We : Get. Your Home Printed Stationery at. The Nugget THE-NEVADA CITY NUGCET. CALIFORNIA AC MONDAY. AUGUST 27. 1978 CORNER CHAT ! TOMORROW IS ELECTION DAY and some ican offices are to be voted for by the enrolled citizens. Two legis. lative offices and three supervisoral positions are to be filled . in this district. The legislative offices are particularly impor--! tant from a mining standpoint with the increased interest . being taken in our predominant industry. It is extremely im. portant that the voters of Nevada County act wisely on how . they cast their votes ~~ COZY in this regard. For the past six years: this assembly district has not had representation from a min-. ing standpoint and it is high time thata change was made if iur mining industry is to get on its feet again. The present incumbent cannot point to a single piece of progressive mining legislation enacted in our behalf and that is exactly what the people are’ interested in. Personally the incumbent As the state, she has not measur. a Q is a charming, cultured woman. the leading mining district of the representative of ad up at all in a practical sense and her record in that rei have too much. contidence in his . gard is still a blank. She has been favored with a six year's . stay at Sacramento and in that time what has she done for . mining? This paper has continuously asked that question of . such of her and not one has! . enswered the question. We believe and we feel sincerely that , supporters as it run across it is time for Nevada County to put people in the state. capitol at Sacramento that have a keen, surpassing interest in the mining industry. A strong representative in the assem‘bly during the last session could have done wonders in putting over the Cloudman bill te placer mining. Our reask our readers to think the matter over seriously and see if it is not possible to:send some one to the assembly this year who will look out for mning at every turn of the road. Ed Gaylord, a former assemblyman and a practical miner, has been put forward by the mining interests of this district and it is encumbent on every one who is ‘in any way dependent on mining to vote for him to goto Sacramento. It is not a matter of sentiment. It is a matter of cold business if mining is to get going again. With capital seeking an outlet in promoting gold mining it is highly important that the industry . be given a chance to rehabilitate itself. Every vote for Ed Gaylord is a vote for the mining industry. Remember that when marking your ballot. IN THE SENATIORIAL. RACE, there are two candidates . who have had-mining experience, BurtA. Cassidy and.Iva Parker. The others have stated their willingness to help the industry in every legitimate way. The late Senator Thomas’ Ingram was a tower. of strength in the senate, when in: his hest health, for the mining industry. He was handicapped during his last term by bad health which greatly incapacited him. If-Nevada county can have representation in both the senate and assembly pledged to aid the mining industry on every possible occasion, we stand an excellent chance to become the banner gold producing county in the state in the next year or so. The voters have it in their power tomorrow to make this possible. IN THE SUPERVISORIAL CONTEST, there are some excellent men campaigning for the honor of _ representing the first district. R. A. Eddy can point with pride to many of his past achievements and feel that on the strength of his recorc that he should be returned. Frank Davies, who has been campaigning on the good roads issue, has been one of the promoters of the Lake Vera idea which has already brought this-section of the state into great prominence as a recrea‘tional area‘through Mills College locating its summer camp here and the Oakland Campfire Girls with Camp Celio which has already attracted thousands to this community the past season. Uncle Tom Coan, who has invested a large sum of money in this section both in mining and ‘ recreation, feelthat he is entitled to the voters’s consideration and has been waging a campaign intended to interest the ballot casters Charles Eden, who has had considerable experience in roac building feels that if he is elected that he can major or more roads and better roads with his background of practice knowledge. The first district is sure to be represented by ‘ good man &nd with all of them pulling for good roads thi -section should be sure to benefit. IN THE MIDST OF THIS political palaver jit is well te call attention to the fact that The Nugget has eight page this weék made possible by the advertising demands made fo this issue. It would be a splendid advertisement for Nevads City if her paper were that large every week, or larger. The only thing necessary is’ the display advertising and if our meychants will be liberal with their space this is entirely possible. Those merchants who do advertise are the ones who make it possible for Nevada City to have a newspaper, and only those. Those merchants who have been loyal to The Nugget through its two years of active life are the ones who are making it possible for Nevada City to get back on its feet again and to have its own newspaper. The readers of this paper should co-operate with Nugget advertisers as they are. the ones who make The. Nugget possible in Nevada City.
