A SOLID FRONT 10 THE ENEMY.
Proceedings of Yesterday’s Convention—A Strong Ticket.
This seems to be an unusually good
year in Nevada county for fruit of all
kinds, and until yesterday there was a
fullcrop of aspifats for Republican
nomination. But yesterday the people’s voice was heard in the land, and
the great bulk of said aspirants were
relegated tothe rank and file, while
the chosen few were advanced to the
proud position of being eligible to assessment by the County Central Committee and to where they will for. the
next two months bethe helpless victims of every campaign bummer who
is pleased to strike them for a ‘‘piece.”’
The ticket put up yesterday is a
strongone. There are some aches and
pains of disappointment as a result of
the contest which was at times very
stubborn, but themen who did such
gallant battle are good Republicans
and they have. no soreness of head
that will cause them todo spiteful or
foolish‘ things. ‘
At 11:25 o’clock the convention was
called toorder by A. R. Lord, Secretary of the County Central Committee.
The lower-portion. of the Theatre
was well filled with delegates, candidates and other citizens. Mr.
said :
‘You remember that four years ago
when we met here Democratic howls
of fraud and corruption were going up.
We’ve had nearly four years of Democratic reform. We’ve had enough.
Don’t you think so?’’ [Cries of yes.]
Mr. Lord referred to the numerousness of candidates in the Republican
party, and declared ita hopeful sign:
He predicted a Republican victory
next Fall. The hope was expressed
that there would be no soreheads as a
result of the Convention.

The city; is —alive—-withstrangers.
Hotels, restaurants and saloona are
doing a rushing business. Scores of
games of chance are being openly and

concomitants.
The space at the Pavilion is about
all engaged, and it was mostly filled
up by last evening with the myriad of
articles that go to make such an exhibitien attractive to people of all classes
and conditions,
The exhibit this year speaks very
loudly of the progress of the county
when we come to compare it with the
display of former years. Somany and
such fine fruits were never before got
together in this part of the State.
The same can be suid of the cereals
and vegetables shown; also of the

The art gallery gives signs of being up

those seen are unusually good. There
