MINERS FOUNDRY
MAKES SEVERAL
MINE MILLS
The Miners Foundry of this city
has had another busy month and the
following large orders were noted
this week:
A 50 ton mill was sold to the Bige.
low mine at Sierra City. The foundry crews ‘have ipractically assembled
the mill'and it is expected it will be
in running order in ten days if the
weather permits.
An order for 15 two and.a thalf
iton side-dump ore cars is being gotten out for a mining company in the
state of Nevada. These cars are
much larger than the others which
were one ton capacity.
Two Pendelton revolutionary mills
of immense size are about completed for A. D. Hadsell of Forest Hill.
The foundry has just completed a
cyanide plant for the same company.
The foundry is building a 20 ton
daily capacity rod mill for Mr. Ivey
of Grass Valley who is opening up
his own property near that city.

CHRISTMAS TREE
CROP OF FOREST
SERVICE 50,000
SAN FRANCISCG; Dec. 16.—Out
of the great fir treé forests of California the other day stepped Paul
Bunyan, legendary patron of the
woods, to renew his annual agréement with old ‘St. Nicholas who depends upon Paul to furnish Christmas trees for children from one to
ninety years of age. Both gentlemen
smilingly conceded that without the
wares of the other, Christmas would
not be like it used to be at home. So
‘Paul agreed to have the trees ready
and St. Neik bargained to continue
putting toys and gifts umder the
trees. With that, the contract was
signed and sealed ,to become effective on Christmas morning, December
25.
From national forest rangers in
this state comes word of the cutting
of 50,000 Yule trees for the Christmas decoration of many happy homes.
Perky, upright, full foliaged, and
brgiht with colored lights and tinsel, the carefully selected Christmas
tree will soon take its place in the
customary corner or before the living room window. The growth of
from 10 to 25 summer seasons is in
phe annual rings of the sturdy Hittle
tree. It probably is a silver tip red
fir, or white fir, or maybe a Douglas
fir from the northern forests—Abies
magnifica, Abies concolor and Pseudotsuga taxifolia to tree lovers of
botanical’ in@lination.
There is a story within the bark of
each little fir transformed into a
Christmas tree. A tale of -hardship
in competition for surviving among
other and larger trees, or or near
death from raging forest fires or
blight. Maybe, the silver tip has been
cut as part of a yearly thinning of .
the forest; in this case the other
trees which. rémain in the woods will
grasp the advantage of
abundant space and ‘sunshine and
grow to maturity more rapidly than
quickly
been for a Christmas tradition kept
alive by Paul Bunyan and St. ‘Nickolas.
Officials of the United States Forest Service in the California Region
again have allowed the removal of
trees in national forest
areas which will not be harmed by
the selective cutting activities of the
tree dealers. Written permit and
contract have been required of each
dealer whose agent cut and sell the
Christmas trees. Those who do not
comply with Forest Servicce regula; tions violate state and federal laws.
