Lend Your Co-operation
Although school has closed before
the scheduled time, the band and the
glee club are still working hard for
their concert Tuesday night. Tickets
must be_ sold. The community
should respond. The band turns out
one hundred. per cent to all public
functions which request their presence. Uniforms are’ now planned
for, and it is only through the concert that they can make this plan
work out. ‘
It is near Christmas, but that is
all the more reason why everyone
should co-operate. If you do -not
wish to attend the concerts contribute at any rate.
The band as a whole expect your
co-operation.
The White Christmas
Those who witnessed the. white
Xmas sponsored by the Woman’s
Club of Nevada City, were merely
affected by the sight of the school
children depositing their gifts at the
foot of the beautiful Xmas tree. Materially, their gifts were not like the
Three Wise Men of old, but morally
and spiritually there was the same
thought behind those gifts. The rain
drizzled down and the wind blew the
tree from side to side while carols
were sung by the glee club. But the
spirit which Wag’ so _ prevalent
through out was not dampened by
these facts.
Certainly the givers felt more joy
in presenting these white gifts to
the poor, than they, as receivers -of
gifts even more beautiful will feel
upon receipt of theirs. This is the
spirit of Christmas.
A Merry Christmas and a Happy
New Year to everyone and may that

Sickness
The “flu’’ scourge is with is but
there are hopes for its quick departure. For over a month it has been
trying to gain a foothold at school,
with 40 absent last Thursday, school
was closed Friday, not to reaopen
again until the 3rd of January. The
staff wishes a speedy recovery for
those students afflicted with this
dreaded sickness.
There Is a Santa Claus
Listen, everybody! There is a
Santa Claus! Beljeve it or not. A
long time ago a little girl wrote to
the editor of a New York paper and
asked *him if Santa actually existed.
In reply the editor wrote a leter
which has by popular request’ been
published every year since. He declared that there is a Santa Claus.
Assembly i
Thursday, the 15th, an assembly
was held to determine the name the
high school wished to have for its
basket ball teams. :
The following names were submitted: Goldbugs; T.: N._ T.’S;
Grizzleys; and Yellow Jackets.
The latter name met with the most
approval and was selected as the future name for our teams.
Heres hoping this name will
bring a lot of luck to the fellows.
Girls’ Sports .
Since the cold weather has arrived the girls have been compelled to
stay indoors during P. E. class.
Miss Fischer has been giving the
girls some very interesting and valuable talks. Some of her topics con‘cerned Christmas, among which
were, the Christmas Tree on Lake
Merit Island, the Spirt of Christmas
Trees. The last was in the form of
a poem, which was declared by all
to be a trifle sentimental, but yet
very clever and likable.
An article entitled ‘“‘Cosmetic Follies,’? was read to all the classes but
the fifth period. Some of the members of this class were a little persistently noisy, so Miss Ficher required all the girl to read it outside.
The article dwelt on the subject of
nostrums for beautifying, face peeling, and other things falsely claimed
to restore or produce beauty.

Girls’ League Meeting
Last Tuesday during third period,
the Girls’ League held a meeting
presided over by Phyllis Horn, the
president.
Nominations were first in order
for representatives to be sent to the
Girls’ Convention at Richardson
Springs next April. About eight
girls were nominated, but as several
had been to the convention in previous years, the three to go were:
Phyllis Horn, Louise Schreiber, and
Gertrude Sawyer. It is hoped that
they will gain from this convention.
Suggestions were next made for
raising money and a luncheon seemed the most possible undertaking.
For the rest of the period the
girls sang songs, one of which was
composed by Ruth Parker, a new
girl at school.
During the same period, the boys
held a meeting for the purpose of
listening to Ben Sweeney, Bob Tamblyn, and Mr. Kjorlie tell about the
Older Boys’ Convention held: at
Placerville last week. We heard
Ben gave a very good speech over at
Placerville. .
Mr. Kjorlie said it was the best
speech given. We will soon. see his
name in print, ‘‘The Silver Tongued
Orator.”’

Pharis, Isabel Dunlap and Valencia
Whitley met at the post office about
Honor Society District Convention,
held at Auburn. Mr. Tremaine
kindly took the group over.
Arriving at 11 o’clock, we registered and then met in the assembly
hall where we with tlte other delegates were welcomed. The advisors
with drew to another room and we
carried on the business. Many. subjects were discussed, among them;
privileges of Honor Society Students, how the meetings were conducted, activities of the Society,
methods for procurring money for
the school,. length and number of
periods a day, how well student
government plan functions, and sevreal other similiar discussions.

the buildings which are very complete and modern. After the tour
of the buildings we were favored by
the presentation of two skits and vocal solos by a boy and girl and two
violin solos by a young man, which
were very entertaining.

Thoughts in Ryme
By Billy Kirkham ’34
Oh, every day in every way,
We need some fun and pleasure.
And that is what ‘we all will know,
As we will find this treasure.
There’s “‘Blah by Ben’’—the best
thing out
We love its funny capers
It’a.better than the “Blah by all”
You read in city papers.
If everyone would try to laugh,
"Twould change their: whole expression
And jokes the style that Ben puts
out
Will loosen the depression.
This issue’s in, the poem run
The moral—‘‘Laugh a trifle!’
And make the whole world shout
with joy
That “hard times’’ cannot stifle.

I heartily agree with your splendid ‘Prosperity Ad’? in which you
speak of “County money, county
