NEVADA CITY 50 YEARS AGO
K. Kasper, long a resident of this
city, was planning to remove, to Vallejo, and was advertising for sale at
a bargain his house and lot on Main
Street.
After a meeting of the Curly
Bears had adjourned the members
formed in line and headed by Goyne’s
band, marched, to the residence of
F. T. Nilon on upper Nevada Street
to serenade Mr. Nilon and offer congratulations upon his election to the
office of superior judge. Mr. Nilon
made a few remarks from his front
porch and then the whole company
numbering more than 200 was invited into the houre to partake of some
zo0od cheer that had been hastily
nrepared. Goyne’s band rendered several fine selections and a glee club

Brown and others sang a number of

The saw mill of M. L.and D.
Marsh at Willow Valley had closed
ddéwn for the season. During the season ended over 1,000,000 feet of
lumber was sawed out, being one of
the largest runs ever made by the
firm.
The Royal Whist club was entertained by Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Carter
at the New York Hotel, First prizes
of the evening went to F. T. Nilon
and Mrs. C. J. Naffziger, second prizes to C. J. Brand and Mrs. Geo. F.
Jacobs and the booby prize went to
C. J. Naffziger and Mrs. James
Cairns. :

BISHOP—In Nevada City, Nevada.
County, Novemiber 26, 1946, Napoleon Bonaparte Bishop, father of
Cilyde Bishop, grandfather of Lester
Bishop, both of Brownsville, Yuba
County and brother of Mrs. Josie
Burkholder of North San Juan and
Mrs, Nettie Kneebone of Wheatland,
Yuba County, aged 78 years. Funeral services were held November 29.
Burial was in the North San Juan

GRASS VALLEY: Miss Barbara
Burkhart of Nevada City became the
‘bride of Larry Wilson last Saturday
in a ceremony .at the Methodist
Church. Rev. Jesse R. Rudkin officiated. Matron of honor was Mrs,
Helen Rodgers. Roger Wilson, the
groom’s uncle, was best man.
The bride is the dauhter
City. The grooms mother, Mrs, Edith
Wilson is a resident of the Cedar
Ridge district. The groom attended
Grass Valley schools before enlisted
in the navy, from which he is at present on leave.
LEGION PLANS TO
ENLARGE QUARTERS
GRASS VALLEY: Hague-ThomasHegarty Post of the Legion is considering enlargement of its Present
meeting quarterg in the Veterans
Memorial building to include a room
for bowling.
Due to the. enlarged membership
roll following World War Il, the
post finds its present quarters too
small and plans renovation of another part of the building which will
give more room.
Hard wheat flour is used mostly
for bread baking while soft wheats
make the best cakes and pastries.
