LONG FAMILY REUNION
Mr. and Mrs, Irving Long returned Monday from Modesto where they
were joined by their daughter, Miss
Margaret Long, University of California student, and all enjoyed celebrating the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr. Long’s parents on Sunday. Four sons and a daughter and
families were present there being
four generations enjoying the happy
affair. A remarkable incident is the
fact that in the fifty years of life together there has never been a death
in the family. Miss Margaret Long
returned to Nevada City with he:

The American Red Cross again
acting to prevent a tragedy of injuries and fatalities at Christmas time,
checks Santa himself by instructing
the merry old gentleman to fireproof
his long white beard before getting
near holiday candles or hearths, according to Frank Finnegan, chairman of the accident prevention committee.
Largely because of Christmas celebrations, more persons are injured
by fire during Decemeber than any
other month, the Red Cross warns.
Even St. Nicholas may constitute a
fire hazard, and should play safe by
dipping his sometimes highly inflammable whiskers in a solution of four
ounces of ammonia phosphate to one
quart of water.
In further voicing the opinion of
the majority that safety and sentiment mix, the Red Cross turns the
spotlight on other ancient Yule customs, :
“Burn.a candle in the window for

that a fire extinguisher and an unobstructed exit are handy, Mr. Finnegan adds,
Look out for:
A Christmas tree kept in the
house longer than a week dries out
and will catch fire easily.
Cotton and cellophane are both
highly inflammable. When using as
tree decorations, take care.
Insulation which has worn off the
Christmas tree lighting sets should
be replaced since a short circuit may

In the excitement of holiday time,
take special care in the _ kitchen.
Keep knives out of reach of children;

things on top shelves use a stepladder, not a chair or pile of boxes.
If snow and ice are on the ground
sprinkle steps and walk with salt or

All public holiday gatherings
should be held in buildings which

Exits should be kept clear and dangerous over-crowding should not be

Keep floors free of small objects
