OLD HOME BURNS DOWN
IN CAMPTONVILLE
CAMPTONVILLE, Dec. 21.—The
King house located on Main street
was completely destroyed by fire 7
o’clock Monday morning. The origin
of the fire is not known but when
discovered was of such proportions
that it could not be extinguished, The
flames were aided by a very strong
north wind which reduced the large
residence to ashes in less than half
an hour. It was occupied by Mr. and
Mrs. Vance Durfee and their infant
child and brother Gus Durfee.
The men had gone to work short-.
ly after Mrs. Durfee discovered the
whole place on fire, she barely had
time to rescue her little girl and
flee. An alarm was spread and the
townspeople responded and helned
‘keep the fire from spreading to the
Cleveland home next door. The forest service had their pump truck in
use. Very little of the contents were
saved and the loss’ is a total one with
no insurance. The house belonged ‘to
James M. King of Browns Valley and
Ea G. King of McCloud. It was an old
time residence.
