NEW NEVADA CITY
SKI COURSE WINS
QUICK SUPPORT
There was a well attended meeting of the Chamber of Cémmerce
last evening at which the proposal to
establish a new Nevada City ski
course fifteen miles above this city
on the Tahoe Ukiah highway was discussed.
_As a start toward establishing this
new winter recreation ground it was
decided to raise enough money this
year through contributions of business men to build four toilets. The
Nevada City )Chamber volunteered
to contribute part of the costs*The
plan of building a ski lodge at the
course was also discussed but it was
believed that this should wait until
necessary first improvements are
made.
DeWitt Nelson, supervisor of the
Tahoe National Forest, gave an ac+
count of the work already done by
the forest service in making this-one
of the safest and most attractive ski
eourses in this part. of&the Sierras.
The course has been cleared of all
obstacles and topographically lies in
such a manner that skiers can almost return to their starting place
under their own power. Supervisor
Nelson stated that approximately
$3,000 mainly for labor has been expended in clearing the course. He
said ‘that in so far as labor was concerned the forest service would aid
in setting up the proposed lavatories, but that materials would have to
be provided,
Secretary H. F. Sofge, of the chamber, pointed out that other communities are spending thousands of dollars for ski courses, to meet the increasing demand for spots where
.f Winter sperts enthusiasts may be accommodated. This outlay, he declared is:returned many fold to the enterprising business men who sponsor
ski courses; since they bring thousjands of young people through the
city who patronize restaurants, service stations and, in fact, practically
all places of business. ‘
Miss Therese O’Connor of French
Corral, is spending the Christmas
and New Year holidays in Sacramento with relatives. Her sister, Mrs.
Madden left Thursday for a few days

Francisco over the holiday. Mrs. Mad_
