At Masonic Temple
Evangeline Chapter ‘No. 9; Order of Eastern Star, will meet
Tuesday evening at the Masonic
Temple for a business meeting
and New Year’s party. Mrs. Ruth
Berggren will be the chairman
for the evening and Mrs. Shirley
Schiffner, co-chairman. Mr. and
Mrs, Bert See and Mrs. Dorothy
Gwin. will also assist in making
the evening an enjoyable one.
“The Christmas party held Dec.
19 was preceded by a short busiRess méeting presided over by
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Forstner,
Worthy Patron and Worthy Matron. Deputy Grand Matron Dorothy Boom of Wheatland and ‘visitors from Maxwell ‘and Gridley
were also ,present.
The banquet hall was festive
with a large and beautifully decorated Christmas tree and holiday greens strewn over the tables. Ernie Young played Santa
Claus to the members and children who attended the party.
An interesting program. was
presented by six pupils of Franc
uschen and several of Bill Tobiassen’s pupils.
Bob. Fischer accompanied the
string ensemble of Dorene Hatwig, Ann Tamblyn, Janet Haley,
Nancy. Scholefield and Emily
Kelly.
Tommy White! sand Christmas
in Killarney.
Bobby Elliott recited a poem.
Carol Young.sang Rudolph, the
Red-Nosed Reindeer.
Barbara Ellitt played ‘a piano,
solo.
Charles Eden read the poem,
A Visit From St. Nicholaus.
Joyce Kelly sang St. Nicholas
Is Coming to Town with Luschen
at the piano.
Joy Lotz, a first grader, received applause for singing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
William: Prentiss sang Santa
Claus Is Coming to Town with
Bob Fisher, a sixth grader, at the
piano. ,
Josephine Kendrick sang Frostie the Snowman.
Community singing was enjoyed by all.
Mrs. Maude May Shaw was the
program chairman. Mrs. Lavina
Laughlin chairman of the refreshments and the following assisted in making the Christmas
party a very merry affair: Mrs.

VISITING MINNESOTA

on board the City of San Fran.

first visit in 30 years. He expects
to return to God’s country early

Christmas Holidays
Dr. and Mrs. M. William Silva
and children, Billy and Marie, of
Long Beach, spent the Christmas
holidays with Mrs. Silva’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Hilpert;
of Cooper Road. Mrs. Silva and
her children spent a week with
her parents before Christmas, her
husband joining her for the last
weekend.

daughter, Darlene of Torrance;
also Mr. and. Mrs. Robert Lewis
and family, John Lewis, Mrs. Audrey Vernon, daughter of Mr. and

Golden Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. John Odgers observed their golden wedding anniversary here last’ week, but are
postponing celebration until Odgers recovers from a recent illness.
The couple married Dec. 20,
1900, in Sacramento.
Odgers is a native of Nevada
City, and Mrs. Odgers was born
in Ohio. f
The couple have five children:
Mrs. Lenora Kingsley and Mrs.
Donna Cupps, Citrus Heights;
Frank Odgers, Roseville; John
Odgers, Sacramento; and Mrs.
Margaret Gustafson, Sutter City.
SORORITY MEETS
Mrs. George Raddue Jr. was
hostess to the Beta Sigma Phi
Sorority members and their husbands when the Christmas party
was held at her home Dec. 21.
Refrehments and egg noggs were
served from a beautifully ‘decorated buffet table presided over
by the hostess who is on the
social committee. Mrs. Vivian
Hartman is the president and arranged the evening to also be the
Secret Pal revealing night.

Mrs. Alice Scheemer’s beautifully decorated home was the
scene of the Nevada City Soroptimist Club’s Christmas party on
Dec. 21.: The revolving Christmas
