TWO PERCENT INTEREST ON SAVINGS ACCOUNTS Intention on part of directors . and management of the Bank of America to pay a substantially increased rate of. savings interest in 1951 has been announced by. ¥% L. M. Giannini, president. Under the new schedule it is : ; contemplated that a rate of.two. : ‘percent per annum, compounded semi-annually, will be earned by savings deposits in all individual pass book accounts in the Bank of America starting Jan. 1, 1951, compared with the rate of 1%}: percent which applied during the past years. President Giannini stated that}. this course was not only a re-. ) ward for thrift but “also in line with the bank’s established policy to pass along to depositors, stockholders and employes the benefits of continuing satisfactory operations. During 1950, he said, employes ireceived a general increase in salaries plus an additional approximately one and a_ half months salary to participating employes ‘by way of: profit sharing bonus, and dividends to the stockholders increased 20 percent. In addition to being the world’s greatest non-government bank, he pointed out, the Bank of America is the largest savings bank, and as such, so long as it is possible to do so, it seems appropriate to pay a rate as high as that paid by many of the jarge savings banks of the U.
