The retired assemblywoman, who introduced it in the assembly was busy trying to make votes in the last campaign promising to have it amended but failed in the effort to convince the voters’ that her efforts were sincere. The bill had glaring defects, principally in that it practically put the prospector and the small time miner out of business as as denying the stores. in the small communities the priviledge of trading in gold dust for the. necessaries of life. The license and bond restrictions were onerous, even banks ‘having to take out a license cost, and what was gained? There was not a single conviction under the act although the state mining bureau brought several actions. High grading is abuse of the privileges of working for a mining company and the class of men who prey an on. their employfers for ill gotten gains are no better than the: plain yegg and highwaymen in the -eyes of the law. and-good society. reach that class of gentry it was not necessary to impose hardships on the prospector who is the backbone of the mining industry, or the small time miner . who is working his little claim and opening up what may turn out to be a big producer. The small mine is a vital factor in the life of every mining community and every encouragment should be given such. Our newly elected assemblyman is ready and willing to do his bit to see that the prospector gets his innings once more and with the state department of natural resources stating that the law is a bad one, it should not be a difficult feat to amend the law in. some features so that. is will be less onerous in some of its proviions. The law should never have gone on ihe statute books in its. presen? ‘orm. The mining companies should be given every safeguard to protect their investment but not at the expense of the prospector and small But in trying io miner who have been the innocent , sufferers from such legislation and + who were never responsible for its enactment. People lived normal lives, ate plain, wholesome foed, and got plenty of fresh ijir. But even that early there were 'jtrastic physics and purges for the relief ipf constipation which Dr. Caldwell did lot. believe were good for human beings. The prescription for constipation that he used early in his practice, and which he put in drug steres in 1892 under the name of Dr. Caldwell’s Syrup Pepsin, ‘is a liquid vegetalle remedy, intended for women, children and elderly people, and they need just such a mild, safe howel stimulant. yThig prescription has proven its worth gud ig now the largest selling liquid laxative. It has won the confidence of pope who needed it to get relief from 1eudaches, biliousness, flatulence, indigestion, loss of appetite and sleep, bad breath, dyspepsia, colds, fevers.
