NEVADA CITY-GRASS_VALLEY NUGGET
. called earth and they haye been tinkering with it.ever since
they appeared upon its surface. Men have been inveffting, discvering, readjusting and revamping it for ages past. It is-a
far better world but still it needs improving. Franklin thought
that lightning was taking too many liberties of attack. “so he
fastened a rod to the steeple and now when the lightning
comes down, he keeps it from church and from people by runino it into the gound.” Edison thought the world was poorly
lighted and we all know how he sdlved that problem; these are
two examples; we can readily think of scores of others which
have added greatly to the comfort and happiness-of mankind;
we would be quite lost if we were suddenly deprived of the
successes wrought by tinkering. Let’s go on from here; there
are numberless discveries yet to be made, more comforts and
conveniences td“be evolyed. We want these as yet unknown
blessinge—we need them, so wasting no time in quarreling
with one another, let's sharpen our brains and produce the es-.
sentials of fine and joyous living-and transform this old world
