TO REVIEW BILLS
IN LEGISLATURE
Proposed legislation and its effect upon the economic development
of the Sacramento Valley will feature
the meeting of #fie Sacramento Valley Council to be held on Friday,
February 19, at the Hotel Senator,
Sacramento.
With approximately 4,000 bills already introduced in the legislature,
it will be impossible to consider all
of the bills separately, but those having an effect’ upon the Sacramento
Valley District will be given consideration. Those bills concern agriculture, industry, mining, conservation,
lumbering, fish and game, taxation,
revenues and expenditures, highways
and other subjects in which the
council is vastly interested.
The council represents 19 Northern California counties and the attendance at the meeting is expected
to exceed 125. Dudley V. Saeltzer of
Redding chairman of the council,
will preside.
Committee chairman are: Agriculture, Jesse Poundstone, Grimes;
Conservation, R. L. P. Bigelow, .Nevada City; Highways, L. B. O’Rourke, Blairsden; Winter Sports, Dom
A. Civitello, Sacramento; Publicity,
P. B. Goss, Auburn; History and
Landmarks, Harry Peterson, Sacramento; and Tax, James Irving, Placerville.
It is expected’ that the representatives of boards of supervisors in
the district will be present, as well
as representatives of farm organizations, trade ofganizations, and the
chambers of commerce.

as the outstading attraction of the
Sacramento Music Series, Marion
Anderson, negro contralto whom the
New York Times calls ‘fone of the
greatest singers of our time” will
sing in Memorial auditorium Friday
evening, February 26, Reservations

at Ye Music Shoppe.
Born in Philadelphia, the daughter of an humble school _ teacher,
Miss Angedson first sang in the local church choir. ‘She was chosen
from 300 competitors in a contest to
sing at the Lewisohn Stadium in New
York City and as a result was invitdelphia Philharmonic Society.
Following study abroad, Marion
Anderson made her first major triumph in Paris. Soon, all of the music
capitals of Europe paid her homage.
Superlatives burned the cables. The
Sol Hurok signed her for an American tour.
She established : a precedent in
her first three recitals by packing
New York’s Town Hall to the rafters
—triumphs which she repeated in
Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, and
Washingtton. That was last season.
This year, she tours the. country,
making her first appearances on the
Pacific Coast. Her only Northern
California appearance will be in Sacramento,

and plums will consider operations
of the California tree ‘fruit marketing agreement and w'll elect commodity committee representatives at
the meeting to be held on March 1
at Colfax, Placer county. This announcement -was made today by H.
r. E. Catlin, county farm advisor.
This meeting and similar meetings
are being held throughout tree fruit
producing areas in California during
joint auspices of the agreement control committee, the California Extension Service, and the Agricultural
Adjustment Administration. ;
The.1937 outlook for pears and
plums will be given at the meeting
by a representative of the California
Extension Service. Information compiled—by--thecontrol committee and
the AAA will also be presented showing the specific relation of the marketing agreement ‘to these fruits as
well as economic facts bearing on
the situation. .
