The following resolution was passed by the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce at its Monday night meeting in support of the Yuba Narrows : ( Dam project: ‘ WHEREAS, the Federal Government is considering the a Proposal that a dam be constructed at the Narrows of Yuba \ 4 River, California; and WHEREAS, recent. investigations ‘by the Army. Engi. __ neers Corps of the U. S. War Department have shown that the ; lac project will be economically sound and in the general public li interest; and 3 i WHEREAS, the dam would be highly beneficial to navi' gation through its capability for storing large amounts of old} mining debris, which otherwise would pass downstream and . be deposited in the navigable waterways between Sacramento . and San\Francisco Bay; and WHEREAS, the storage of such river debris at the dam will save the Federal Government large expenditures which ‘ otherwise would have to be made for dredging work in order to maintain navigable depths in the lower channels and bays; and WHEREAS, the project will provide space for the detention of tailings from hydraulic mining and thus permit revival. of this long prostrate industry; and WHEREAS, the dam will be of incidental service in the production of hydro-electric power and improving the water * supply of irrigation developments in Yuba County; and 3 WHEREAS, the investigations by the War Department show the navigation values, storage fees from hydraulic min1 ing and revenue from the sale of power, will be more than adequate to maintain the dam.and repay the construction cost; : NOW, Therefore, Be it Resolved, that the Chamber of ® . J Commerce of Nevada City urges that immediate appropriation Tv 1 £ be made by the Public Werks Administration for the construc\.J tion of the project as a unit in the Federal Public Works program; and lution be transmitted to Hon.
