ago. While there she attended the
wedding of her grandson, Elmo
Garibaldi to Miss Alice Shearer of

Mr. Garibaldi extend their congratulations. Mr. Garibaldi has visited
his grandparents quite often and has
many, friends on the ridge.
Mr. and Mrs. Wolf of Cherokee
were visitors in Nevada City one day
this week.

won a pin for typing.
Little Mary Puller was taken
home from San Francisco last Sunday to her homé in Gerber. She is
much better, but\ has to have the
best of care for a year.

fever and all want ‘rain. ;
Jack Phelan went prospecting and
panned out.a nugget\ worth three
dollars and several small ones.
Parties from Oakland have bought
the Haskill ranch formerly, the Trainor place. They are fixing is up for
a summe home. It will bea nice
home when fixed up. There are several more ranches’ over here\ that
will be sold or rented. Soon\old
Cherokee will be getting back again
with all these old ranches that have
gone to rack, being put in fine
‘hhape. It is ‘nice to see them
fixed up again and soteck grazing in
the fields, while children play in
the yards that have been deserted
for years.
Miss Mary Joan Campbell of Columbia Hill spent institute week
with her aunt, Mrs. D. Coughlin of
Nevada City.
Mr. and Mrs. E. Frost of the Siberia mine were visitors in Nevada
City Thursday.
Mr. M. Coughlin and wife of Nevada City were visiting relatives in
Columbia Hill Sunday.

school district has purchased the old
covered by the barn of the now defunct Downieville Stage Company,
lies upon the upper plaza, and. was,
after “the removal of the barn, used
as a_playground by the school children. The lot was purchased by the
late G. Ponta from the Case Estate,
and for sevéral years has been open
to the children. Recently Mrs. Ponto began fencing the lot, and the
