TENDERFOOT DISCARDS REAL GOLD Development of the strike recently made on the 1900-level of the Idaho Maryland mine shows_the possible discovery. of a new vein system extension of the famous Idaho-Maryland vein which produced so many millions in years gone by and made this mine one of the biggest produec— ers of the precious yellow metal in all of California’s The Eureka-Idaho-Maryland pa LY shoot produced during the heydey Of, its existence a total of $19,131,187 and paid dividends of $7,071,084. Driving .on the shoot recently exposed has’ penetrated a distance of 100 feet from point of discovery and the ledge matter between walls has increased from four to eight feet in width and the values are holding. up in excellent shape. The new discovery is an independent.ore shoot which has never been cut into in any of the previous workings and there are really three veins tied up in the shoot. The ore so far looks’ much better than the old Idaho Maryland shoot. Ground is also to be opened upon the 1000 dnd 1600 levels to develop the new find at.an early date and determine its extent. This vein system outcrops on the surface. but like Other outcrops on the property did not carry high values and was passed .up by the previous , operators The following taken from the State Mining Bureau report issued in 1918 shows this significant statement: ‘‘In view of the development, in the other large mines of Grass Valley district, of numerous. disconnected ore bodies often hundreds of feet apart, it appears that the Canon shaft ore shoot: offers an excellent opportunity for the development of another ore body entirely independent. of the Eureka Idaho Maryland pay shoot; nor can it be said that these two ore possibilities of the property, for there is every reason and precedent to expect that aggressive and systematic development work will open up other pay shoots on the known lode and there is also the possibility that other parallel or diverg xing veins will be discovered.” A flashlight discovery is on display in The Nugget window and has. attracted a great deal of attention. picture of the new It is expected that unwatering of shaft will be commenced this suminer which should mean the operating of the combined properties of the Idaho Maryland, Brunswick and Union Hill on a large scale. Getting curious afterwards he brought a couple of fair sized pieces to town and showed them to a business man and told him that it was too bad that it “wasn’t the real stuff as he had thrown away a lot of that kind of: rock during the. work at that point. The business man took it up and looking at it closely, excitedly informed the finder that he had lit on quartz literally plastered with rfree gold in considerable quantity ‘and that he had better trot back and gather up what he had discarded as } he had a fortune in sight.
