CHAD HANNA ON
Great novels which have been
swept by a wave of popular interest
on to the:best seller lists throughout
the nation are, more and more, being sought by film producers as suitable vehicles for successful films.
Some of the greatest have been based on best se'ling novels ‘ike ‘The

it was natural that production companies would bid heavilv for it. Acclaimed by millions of readers as a
magazine serial and later as a novel,
success on the
screen was virtually assurred.
After purchasing the rights to
“Chad Hanna,” 20th Century Fox
assigned the task of bringing it to
life on the screen to the combination. which had so much to do with
the success of ‘“‘The Grapes. of
Wrath’’—Associate Producer Nunally Johnson, who a'sowrote the
sereen play, and the star Henry Fonda. Two other important starring
roles went to Dorothy Lamour and
Linda Darnell. Filmed in
; Technicolor and directed by the vet'eran Henry King,

TIME TO SIGN
AAA CONTRACTS
IN NEV. COUNTY
Farmers in this county who desire to participate in the 1941 AAA
program are urged to sign up imconservation headquarters.
The sign up involves completion
of a farm plan known as ‘‘WiR-506”
which sets forth acreage allotments
for various special crops, and payments to be earned for meeting allotments and carrying out soil-building ‘practices.
To date 52 farmers have signed
up, which represents 22.3 per cent
of the farms in the county, also 20
range operators ‘have signed up,
which represents 58.8 per cent of
the ranges in the county.
“Only those farmers who complete
'to receive payments under the ‘41
program,” stated William Jaeckle,
chairman of the local AAA county
agricultural conservation committee.
Farm plans, ‘worksheets records
and aerial maps all supply information necessary to agriculture’s preparedness in the present national defense effort, according to Jaeckle.
Complete and accurate information
on every farm in the nation is available through county agricultural
conservation associations such as
ours. We know just where various
crops are grown, the extent of their
production and what land in soilconserving crops is available for future productivity.
“This information also serves as
the basis for whatever adjustments
may be needed in the nation’s agriculture in the future.”
“Tf ever an actual potential food
inventory is needed,’ Jaeckle said,
“there are 135,000 committeemen in
‘the nation who can help get the job
done within a minimum amount of
time.’
