By JEAN MARTZ The Girls League will present their annual program for the Nevada City high school on Friday. The program in charge of Jean Martz has been arranged as follows: Solos by Patricia Presly: ‘Indian Love Call” ahd ‘‘Make Believe.” Personality parade representing the different types of girls found in the average high school. Various members of the Girls League will act these parts. A surprise act by two of the girls. In closing the girls chorus will sing three numbers: “Sweet and Low,’ the well known lullaby; “How Can I Leave Thee,’’ folk song, and ‘‘The Cossack ‘Rider.’”’ a Russian love song. BASKETBALL The Nevada City Yellowjackets will meet the Grant. Union basketball A end B teams on Friday night at the local gymnasium. — The starting lineup for the A game will probably be Lotz and Childers eaywabeten: Kopp, center and Gates and Joyal guards. The starting players for the B game will probably be . ; Pingree, Novac, Martin, Tobiassen, . Ruth. Although the boys were beaten in their encounter with Placer Union,

Grant Union high school is very large and the boys have much experience but its hoop team has not ‘been very successful this year. : HOME ECONOMICS _The Home Economics club held a meeting on Wednesday. LaVerne Willard, as chairman of the arrangement committee, read the list of food to be brought for the pot luck supper and the members’ volunteered their contributions. The menu. will. consist of various types of salad, hot dishes, sandwiches and dessert. The types of food are optional by the contributors. The dinner will be held on Friday evening before the basket ball game. GIRL’S BASKETBALL The girls A team started practicing basketball Monday night. Captains have not yet been chosen but there is a large turnout and the teams will soon organize and begin a tournament. The B team champions arethe members of Francis Davies team. A game for second place will be played on [Friday afternoon between Doris Rosynski and Jean Elliott’s teams. Each of the three B teams have played seven games. After the game on Friday the B team is finished for the year. GOLDEN BEAR MINE Ten men are employed at the Golden Bear mine five miles south of Downieville. Carl Johnson, who’ is interested with Harold Casey of Alleghany in the Bowman mine at Plum Valley is making a brief: visit with his family on Park avenue and will return home this morning. Outlook for, minPLACER JUNIOR COLLEGE WILL OPEN MONDAY Placer Junior ColHege is opening the somostor noxt Dlorday and Tuecdey, when registration will take place at the college administration building on Orange street. ‘Class instruction will begin Wednesday under the direction of the factulty according to Dean Wyman E. Olson. ! Among the new courses to be offered are one in sociology given by Ss. ™M. Barooshian, a laboratory course in physiology for nursing and physical education majors; a_ lecture coudse in zoology, a survey course in the history of western civilization; practical aids in photography; and introductory work in mineralogy and surveying. It will also be possible to register in the second semester offerings in English, dramatics, journalism, history, mathematics and sciences. The terminal courses of the commercial and agriculture departments have expanded offerings. The basic classes in shorthand, accounting and typewriting will be continued. Other features of the commercial department will include subjects of saesmanship, social security arccounting, business economics, commercial law, and machine practice. The agriculture department will add new courses in poultry husbandry, advanced pomology, agricultural economics and irrigation. Adults who are interested in an'y of the albove courses may register as special students. District superintendent Dr, John H. Napier announces tlie Nevada county bus will continue to leave the National Hotel at Nevada City at 7:15 a. m. each school‘ day. It will proceed along highway 49, picking up students en route. Fe 0% second GRACEY MINE Crews are employed in 2 shifts at tthe Gracey mine mill treating ore from the Stockton Hill mine in southern Nevada county. The ore is trucked to the mine for reduction. DACIN DREDGING COMPANY The Dacin dragline boat has been hauled upon the bank out of range of high water after completing quite a Tun on gravel along Wolf Creek on the Maben and adjoining properties in southern Nevada county.
