One of the least used but most picturesque etreets in Nevada City is
Washington Road. This narrow’ lane

It’s one of those quaint, out-of-theway of town, that you’re liable
to never know exists, unless by luck
you stumble upon it. It’s the sort of
thing that the artist, Clifford Warner used to draw and paint go well.
‘Warner really caught the spirit of

work, wasn’t popular here, but wold

the town looks when the sun is just
rolling up from behind Banner Mountain in the morning, gilding the tops
of the hillg-and the spires of

it looks in the afternoon when the
red-yellow sun sinking in the direction of the Marysville Buttes, paints
Los Hill and the houses and trees on
West Broad Street a-bright mellow

forest highway funds. An adjacent
section of 2:5 miles between Wilson’s and Camptonville, started in
1946 and now under construction by
Teichert and Son will shortly be completed, Both of these eontracts with
others planned for this year will do
much toward opening up the timber

County.
Contracts: were awarded in 1946
totaling in excess of $1,000,000 for
new timber utilization road into the
Auburn working circle. Construction
has ‘begun on fourteen miles or road

across the North Fork of th: Middte

Ellis concluded his report with the
Statement that while each division
owed increased production and accomplishment during 1946 plans already on hand for post war projects,
which have now been doferred for
years are dependent upon increased
allotments in 1947. “For instance,”

Service Demands
We put up more sa ane electric ng 1946 than in any
previous year. We are ditching-in more pipe 4or new gas Customers
‘than we have ever done before. But we are not yet caught up with
increased demands for gas aad electric service to all customers.
© Shoriage of Seutpmiait
It requires 24 to 36 months to get dcelMery of essential
transicrmers for substations and power lines. We are getting only a part of the gas pipe we need.
Shortage of Transporiatien
eee and trucks of every type needed to get men and
maferials on thejob are gs difucult to get as passenger cars.
Shortage of Labor
‘The conipany is operating scho. Is to train repairmen and
line construction perscanel. We need imany moxé linenion.
It takes a Jot of Ingenuicy Engiueering to maintain a dependable
degree of service to our many gas and electric custoiners. At Eureka,
for instance, we have converted, half-a-wrecked ship into a steam.
electric generating plant. We rebuild, salvage and scour the market
for needed material new or used. During this new year-of 1947 we
hope a lot of needed items will become morc plentiful for all of us,
