INGRATITUDE
An eminent preacher writing in a
religious paper once made this remark: “iknow there are. immense
numibers of people to whonpr tite
word ‘sin’ conveys nothing --more’
than a vague notion of ‘being morally imperfect.” Thedlogianscomplain
that this generation is ‘lacking in
the same sense of sin.’
, With all respect to the theologians
dare I siggest that ordinary, everyday people are sometimes ‘lacking
jn the sense of sin, b’evause parsons,
have narrowed down too much the
meaning of the word ‘sin’. ‘Sin’ too
often means. some bredch of the
moral code and sometimes just a
breach of thé ecclesiasiical: code.
‘Read the Gospel again and you will
find that the’ sins Which cur Tord
most severely condemned were not
these which are mostly usually indluded ‘in our ecclesiastical list. I. do!
not of course, hold any. brief or offer:
‘any excuse for such ‘sins as adultary,,
stealing, murder and the like. I do] j
say; however, that these are-not sins
deed, too often we do not condemn
sins: I think people will do far better
to think about the virtues than.toy
cultivate a state “of: sin. I would}.
certainly include among the . most}
serious sins -that of ingratitude if I
ant task of creating a list of eins.
Our Lord Himself was subject ‘to
