Don C. Billick, superintendent of
the mill at the Arctic mine, above
Washington, was a Nevada City visitor yesterday. Twelve men are employed developing and mining in
three or four tunnels on the property each one being a few hundred
feet in length. L. F. Utter is living
at the mine and overseeing operations: Mrs. Utter has gone to Los
Angeles.
The mill at the Arctic is treating
ore two shifts due to shortage of
water but, Mr. Billick stated it should
be put on steady production shortly as the old South Yuba river was
booming Thursday morning from the
heavy storm of Wedmesday night.
There were two or three inches of
snow on the ‘ground yesterday forenoon.

GIANTS” COMING
According to the Joyce Kilmer
poem, only God can make a tree. The
poem is wrong. Out at the: Warner
Bros. studio, the property department made three trees—or rather
three gigantic redwood logs.
For scenes in the Warner picture
“Valley of the Giants’’, which opens
at the Nevada Theatre Sunday, Director William Keighley asked that
three redwood logs, each ten feet in
diameter and thirty feet long be obtained. The logs were to be places,
on flat cars, a log to a car.
the logs of that size from
wood country to the studio would
cost a lot of money. So the property
department turnd to and made them.
One nice thing about the logs is that
two men can lift each one, since t'
are really hollow. The real ones
would take twenty men.
